I can use the WGBH full text listing to get a pretty good idea of what upcoming programs are about, at least for one month at a time. Then I can search for that program on my channel. At least I can get a one month heads-up. Looks like the folks at PBS would be more aware of this problem. I can only see an individual day's programming on the 'net and a week's programming for my local station ++++++++++++++++++++++++in the local paper. I like a little more lead time than that.
