As an experiment this morning, I did a different tune for the song -- giving each of the letters the same notes in my song as they have in the original: "C" for A and B, "G" for C and D, etc., so that the melody was just as chopped up as the letter-order.

Wasn't really a tune at all. Can you say: "Atonal mish-mash," boys and girls? ;-).

Another thing about the difference between singing this song for young children and singing it for youths or adults (potentially, that is -- I've only sung it for one person so far), is that the little children probably wouldn't catch the common acronyms I slipped in there: K.G.B., T.L.C., and P.D.Q. (though they would probably get "U and I"). I did that, primarially, to make it easier to remember and sing. But I'd also like to think that that it adds a bit of humor to the song, since so much of our modern language has become something of an "alphabet soup."
