A local music pal found some old cassette tapes from a bygone
era among his deceased mother's possessions and asked me to
transfer them to a CD recently.

The tapes are in like new conditon, but other than the
singer's name and song titles, there is no other data.

Tapes are well produced - backup musicians do a great job.

I found only the following short blurb on the -

HISTORY OF WWVA website.

EXCERPTED:
As for those much-loved Jamboree entertainers, they 'visited'
WWVA homes daily with their tightly scheduled 15 minute programs
of music, friendly chatter and persuasive sales pitches. A
listener could buy anything from live baby chicks to rose bushes
to a home study guitar course from the advertising sponsors and
the Hillbilly singers (as they were called back then) proved to
be supersalesmen who pulled thousands of pieces of fan mail and
orders from their devoted listeners.

Stars like Big Slim, Hawkshaw Hawkins, Reed Dunn, BLAINE SMITH,
the Davis Twins, Doc Williams and many others were the favorites
of the day, their singing and selling a vital force in WWVA radio.
