I guess there are a lot of people who are reluctant to learn how to use MIDI or ABC software, and some people cater to that by posting tunes as GIFs on the Web. The trouble with GIFs is that about the only thing you can do with them is look at 'em. MIDI and ABC offer a world of flexibility, and there are plenty of MIDI/ABC programs that are cheap (or free) and easy to use - easier to use than a Web browser.
