Subject: What Is it with the World??? From: The Shambles Date: 19 Jun 00 - 09:38 AM I have been to many so-called 'World Music' events lately. We used to have some idea of what to expect at these events. Now it seems anything goes?
I think my pet hate is those nose flutes from Sunev. Now the sound of them are OK but as you are aware, Naisunev's have five noses or what passes for noses, I am nor sure what the correct term is for that orifice? When all five are blowing flat out, you can hardly hear any other instruments.
The Traf is a wonderful sounding instrument. For those that have not heard one, it sounds a little like the bassoon but with a deeper, somewhat 'fruity' sound. It does have one fatal drawback however. In the hands or more accurately the cheeks of a skilled player from Sunaru, it can be a wonderful experience but alas usually a short one. As you may know the Traf is blown from the anal region of the Sunaru. The sound is fine but the smell……… Now I know World music when I smell it and no one is going to convince me that this is it…… |
Subject: RE: What Is it with the World??? From: Sean Belt Date: 19 Jun 00 - 10:52 AM well, yeah, Shambles... The aroma is unpleasant, but made well worth the discomfort (IMHO) by the fabulous tap dancing. ;-) |
Subject: RE: What Is it with the World??? From: The Shambles Date: 19 Jun 00 - 11:53 AM Taps! Don't get me started on them. When they first came through the 'wormhole' and took the world by storm with their Wormdance thing. I mean, they didn't just not keep their arms to their sides, they just took them off completely. How can you compete with that? |
Subject: RE: What Is it with the World??? From: SeanM Date: 19 Jun 00 - 12:44 PM Damn it Shambles, I thought we said no more of these threads! At the very least, you could have centered it on the TRULY worthy - "What is it with those weird people who live at the end of my block, drive Range Rovers, wear suits 24 hours a day and named all their kids 'Brittney'?" Subject: RE: What Is it with the World??? From: The Shambles Date: 19 Jun 00 - 01:11 PM Shapechangers obviously. Do they play the Traf? And what about those bloody Vogons, with their poetry? |
Subject: RE: What Is it with the World??? From: paddymac Date: 19 Jun 00 - 01:32 PM It has been fearfully whispered that the thankfully inimicable Cleigh is secretely learning to play the Tarf, instructed by his venerable master, the wapstaC. Please advise MI6 immediately if you can verify. |
Subject: RE: What Is it with the World??? From: paddymac Date: 19 Jun 00 - 01:34 PM The Tarf is reported to be a variant of the Traf, but with a somewhat more fluid sound. |

Subject: RE: What Is it with the World??? From: paddymac Date: 19 Jun 00 - 01:37 PM The Tarf is further reputed to be especially popular among young males in collegiate settings, but whether it has spread further afield is at present merely rumored. |
Subject: RE: What Is it with the World??? From: Jim the Bart Date: 19 Jun 00 - 01:45 PM Curious. My associates and I have been working on a combination of the Tarf and the spliff. Strictly top secret, you know. Can't afford to let the competition get a jump on us. But, I have to say since the subject's been raised, the only way to listen to Vogons recite poetry is to get completely Splarffed. Tah |
Subject: RE: What Is it with the World??? From: InOBU Date: 19 Jun 00 - 02:16 PM I though Vogons was a discriminatory term? Steadfastly wobblie InOBU - Larry |
Subject: RE: What Is it with the World??? From: Mbo Date: 19 Jun 00 - 02:45 PM "The Disgusting Little Ball of Green Slime I Found In My Armpit One Morning" was the favorite of the Vogon Prostetnic Jeltz... --Mbo |

Subject: RE: What Is it with the World??? From: The Shambles Date: 20 Jun 00 - 06:54 AM Now on my many collecting trips around the universe, I have come to know many Discriminatory Terms. Although their personal habits do not make them ideal folk to invite for tea, they are not to be confused at all with Vogons and should not be lumped together..
Now their close cousins the Un-Discriminatory Terms are a different kettle of fish altogether, much more Vogon like. They again should not to be confused with the Anti-discriminatory Terms, or indeed the Anti-Discriminatory Practices, a well-intentioned but often misunderstood race of beings. The latter are very proficient on the silent but deadly version of the Traf….. The name of which escapes me? I have heard them mention the word 'tnuc', but I think it may have be a word that many of these backward folk use to describe people from our planet? What part of the Quadrant do these Steadfast Wobblies originate and have they produced any worthwhile music? |
