From "A Twinkle In You Eye" Burl Ives CD - Sony LK 63420

The Donut Song
(Music and lyrics by B Merrill)

(Chorus) When you walk the streets you'll have no cares
If you walk the lines and not the squares
As you go through life make this your goal
Watch the donut, not the hole.

It's written on the rainbow, in letters made of gold
Written on the rainbow, there's wisdom to behold
My friend the little sparrow flew
Close enough to see
Written on a rainbo is this philosophy.

(Repeat verse)
Little angels wrote it, so folks on earth would know

(Repeat Chorus two times)

I'm off to jolly England where
Bulldogs all wear pants
Off to Pango Pango where alligators dance
My friend the little sparrow will
Take me where he flies
Even to the rainbow to read with my own eyes

(Chorus) (Repeat First Verse)

When I was in high school, there was a boy about two years or so behind me whose last name was Morse. His father had a donut company, near or in New York, I think. The only time I ever heard those lyrincs was as part of their advertising campaign, They used just the appropriate lines:

As you walk though life, let this be your goal
To watch the doughnut not the hole.

Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Sourdough
