I don't know about a cat, but "very well pleased me" is in I Went to Market sung here by the Watersons. Lyrics here, at Mainly Norfolk

Ha! Related, I think. All the animals get fed under what must be an enormous tree, but #'s has a cat.

I have been singing the following for years...Can't remember were it came from..possibly from Bob Davenport...

ONCE I HAD A HEN.

Once I had an old hen
This hen did very well please me
And every time I feed my hen
I feed her all under the tree, tree

Hen went chicky shack
Cock went doodle-do
Here’s luck to all the hens
That make me cock go doodle do.

Duck --- Quack, Quack
Cat --- Meaow, Meaow
Dog --- Bow Wow
Cow --- Moo, Moo
Horse ---Neigh, Neigh
Wife --- Nag, Nag

American and British versions of the same song, perhaps.

"I bought me a cat" - in Copland's 1950 Old American Songs

"I went to market" - Roud 544, recorded by the Watersons.

Haven't found either version in DT.

If you learnt it at school I would suggest "Time & Tune" (Summer 71 or Summer 79).
If one of these matches your time in school and no-one has posted the lyrics quite as you remember, respond here with the date you need and I'll dig the booklet out and transcribe direct.
Cheers
Nigel

Vague memory - is that song on the album American Dreamer by Thomas Hampson? Or if not, another album?
