Subject: 'Highland Lullabye' by Alistair McDonald From: Mad Maudlin Date: 17 Jul 01 - 01:44 PM I'm looking for the conmplete lyrics to a song called "Highland Lullabye", marked as traditional and sung by Alistair McDonald. Here is what I was able to make out:
I left my baby lying here, (here follows a chorus in Erse and a verse in Erse)
I heard the curlew crying far, (chorus in Erse again). I would love to have the missing bits, it's such a lovely, haunting song... Thanks in advance! Mad Maudlin |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: 'Highland Lullabye' by Alistair McDo From: GUEST,BOAB Date: 17 Mar 02 - 01:37 AM I can't add to the excellent comment from other Catters. But can't resist telling that this was the first traditional song I ever learned--at my Granny's knee [literally]--before I was five years old-----Auld Boab |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: 'Highland Lullabye' by Alistair McDo From: GUEST,Joseph Miras Date: 18 Dec 03 - 06:35 PM Amazing. Such excellent comments on a song nobody seemed to know about. My version by Alasdair McDonald appears on track 6 The Songs of Scotland, Emporio 1995. Can any of you re- commend more songs/ records by this haunting singer? Happy New Year, Joseph |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: 'Highland Lullabye' by Alistair McDo From: Jim McLean Date: 18 Dec 03 - 07:38 PM Hi Joseph, I wrote Alastair McDonald's first half dozen LPs. His moxt successful LP, Scotland in Song (Nevis Records), he later cloned as Songs of Scotland, copying the album cover and production but I still rate him as a fine singer/musician. |
