Well, it doesn't have the song you're looking for, but click here for other Bonnie Raitt lyrics. Maybe if you follow the links, you'll find the song.
Click here for a bio. "Politically active Quaker parents." Hmmm. I always thought John Raitt was an interesting guy.

Someone I know sings it as:

"and we happened to walk into Nuevo Oleans"

Which, I guess, is Spanish for the Big Easy.

Think I have the album. I'll check this weekend. Heading out to hear her sing tonight, with Shawn Colvin, Jackson Browne and Bruce Hornsby. Can't wait!

Sorry, can't help you. Wrong album, and can't seem to find it on the 'net either?!

Great show last night. The woman is old enough to be my mother, and she is HOT! Catch it if it comes your way. They're having a great time.

Subject: Lyr Add: YOUR SWEET AND SHINY EYES (Nan O'Byrne)
From: Barbara Shaw
Date: 06 Sep 99 - 09:21 PM

This is the way I (used to) do the song:

Your Sweet and Shiny Eyes
Nan O'Byrne

Your sweet and shiny eyes
Are like the stars above Laredo
Like meat and potatoes to me
In my sweet dreams we are
In a bar and it's my birthday
Drinking salty Margaritas with Fernando.

Young and wild we drove down
A hundred miles of Texas highway
To the Mexican border
As the day was coming on.
We crossed the Rio Grande river
And we swore we'd do things our way
When we happened to walk into Nuevo Leone.

Your sweet and shiny eyes
Are like the stars above Laredo
Like meat and potatoes to me.
In my sweet dreams we are
In a bar and it's my birthday
And we're having our picture taken with Fernando.

I wonder if the songwriter might be related to Gerry O'Byrne.
