Subject: Chord Req: Ross Campbells' version of Angel Gabriel From: GUEST,Rockytunes Date: 14 Dec 13 - 01:32 AM Hello Everyone, First time on mudcat :) WOW! I was so pleased to find Ross Campbell's version of Angel Gabriel on youtube! It is Ross Campbell from the UK and he's playing a 12 string, and singing, and it's really great. Anyone who hasn't heard it, do a youtube search and enjoy a real artist in the prime of his craft... Ross, if you're on this site, could you provide the chords for your version? Joe is getting me signed up for PM's, and I thought I'd see if posting on this site would connect with Ross. I know there is a Ross Campbell who posts here, but not sure if it's the same one. If it is, Ross, if you also have a website for cd sales, please post that too (unless it isn't allowed to post websites on mudcat). Thanks everyone. See Norman & Nancy Blake Version |

Subject: RE: Chord Req: Ross Campbells' version of Angel Gabrie From: Ross Campbell Date: 14 Dec 13 - 10:55 AM Mea culpa! Yes, it's me. I had forgotten all about this. Ray Gurney was recording the set at the "Loaded Dog" and this was the first video clip he put up on the club website. Thanks to Sandra for the chance to sing there, and to Margaret for the harmonies! I've already responded to an email from the OP which arrived via Margaret. I got the song "Angel Gabriel" from Emma Williamson when she sang it at Fylde about ten years ago. Lyrics here http://www.traditionalmusic.co.uk/folk-song-lyrics/Angel_Gabriel.htm and also in the DT here @displaysong.cfm?SongID=288 I seem to have added the author/composer attribution to my version below. "Angel Gabriel Frank Dumont/James E. Stewart Oh my soul, my soul, I'm bound for to rest In the arms of the angel Gabriel And I'll climb up that hill and I'll look to the west I'm crossing over Jordan to the Lamb And I'll sit me down in my old armchair But people, I will not be tired And though Satan may sneeze I will take my ease As I warm myself up by the fire Chorus: And I'll shout and I'll dance And I'll rise up early in the morning I will rise and I'll rub my sleepy eyes When old Gabriel comes blowing on his horn Oh my soul, my soul I'm bound for to rest I'll rest just as sure as I am born And I'll sing like a blackbird sitting in its nest When old Gabriel comes blowing on his horn And I'll throw my clothes away up on the shore New garments I will have to wear And I'll have brand new shoes and I'll never get the blues The angels will come and curl my hair Oh I won't be sad when it's time for me to leave I'll pack up my bandbox and go Goodbye old friends, it's no time for to grieve Yes I'm moving up to glory very slow And I'll eat my meals, yes, three times a day You can bet your life, that I will not be late And I'm gonna have some fun when all you people come 'Cause I'm gonna check the tickets at the gate Digital Tradition Mirror note: This is a traditional ("campmeeting") song, sung by Atwater-Donnelly (and perhaps Doc Watson) that I know of. This version is from Atwater-Donnelly's Like the Willow Tree, on BCN Records. CK oct 97" Good luck with the song. I still sing it, but usually with concertina accompaniment these days. Alternative minstrel-style lyrics follow. |
