Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Galtee Farmer From: Martin _Ryan Date: 29 Feb 00 - 03:10 PM Can't remember whether that's a version of "The Galbally Farmer", on which there was a thread lately, or "Farmer Michael Hayes" which is HERE . CHeck it out and let me know. Regards |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Galtee Farmer From: GUEST,Timbrel Date: 29 Feb 00 - 05:55 PM I checked out "Farmer Michael Hayes"and that's definitely not it...is it possible to search the forums for the other title? The story of the song is that an old farmer and his son take a worn=out mare to sell at the country fair. A "Dublin boy" buys it, dresses it up a bit, and sells it back to the poor farmer & son as a retired racer, for 4 times what he originally paid...when they get home, the wife & daughter immediately see what has happened and pile on the abuse. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Galtee Farmer From: Martin _Ryan Date: 29 Feb 00 - 06:03 PM Ah! That's a horse of a different colour, alright! Its not the Galbally Farmer, anyway. There are lots of versions of it around - "Well sold the cow" is, I think the general name for it. Someone will turn up the one you want more quickly than I, methinks. Regards |

Oh there was an old Galtee farmer and he had an old Galtee mare
Up comes a Dublin buyer, 'For a bid I am inclined
Says the son all to the father, 'There's a mare for sale close by
Said the son all to the father, 'Now be quick and make up your mind
When they came to the little cottage at the bottom of the lane
'Oh what did you get that mare clipped for she looks so thin and old --Stewie. |
