Anyone planning a hearme session this sunday? or is it just gonna "happen" - theme? no theme? (Not that I expect to be able to use my mic sunday, but I like to be prepared...)

Monday, tuesday, wednesday and thursday, on the other hand...family is away and MMario just may play! or sing...

Umm, Mario, and everyone, it pretty much well-established that there's ALWAYS a Hearme session going on Sunday nights at 7:00pm, as for "theme" we've pretty much done left them on the side for now. They do make the action happen faster, but sometimes it's just easier to "go with the flow" and sing what you want. Don't worry, we'll listen!

Or we could sing Stations here if enough have mics (I don't) and then get flamified!

Easter Sunday HearMe could be very interesting as well.

But then, that's just my humble opinion!

Just so long as we keep it open to other themes, too, please, although it would be fun to sing "Easter Parade."*BG*

I just typed in "easter" in the DT search box to see what would come up. A lot of songs with that word in them; some pretty interesting ones, too.

I tried to get on, but I'm stuck at home with a laptop that doesn't have a built-in mike and a modem connection that's via slow cell phone (one of the prices you pay for living off the grid), so I'm going to have to miss it. Hope you have fun. Next week I should be healed enough to get into the office. I'll have to do a Passover song.

Aloha,
Mark

Oh, this was wonderful. It is still going on. Just incredible talent and fun.

I sang:

That's Not My Colorado
Prairie Lullaby (as much as mom and dad sang to me)
Desert Silvery Blue
Irish Lullaby
Tattooed Lady

and I read my girlfriend's poem, Hula Girls

Thank you everyone. So far, we had three people from the UK: Jon Freeman, Ed Pellow, and Richard Bridge; Callie from Oz and a bunch of us from all over the US, and Dave in Nova Scotia! Not sure of where some of the others are locatd, so I hope they sign in here. Great music selections tonight!

It was fun to be back!!!

I sang and played:

Common Sailors Palms of Victory (in honor of Palm Sunday) Bulley in the Alley with harmonica John Hardy/Cripple Creek on my new(old) banjo.

The talent tonight was awsome. I just wish I could get through one song without making a blunder. Everytime I get a little closer to doing it though, so maybe someday I'll do it. Please be patient.

My mic is a Labtec AM-252 "NCAT" I think Linn said it was $13.00 at the local computer store. It seems to really work well.

Good night! Sleep tight!

Subject: Lyr Add: LAMENT FOR THE MOLLY MAGUIRES
From: paddymac
Date: 17 Apr 00 - 01:56 AM

LYRIC ADD: Here are the lyrics to "Lament For the Molly Maguires", more or less as done by the Irish Rovers. The tune is verry close to "Hills of Connemarra".

LAMENT FOR THE MOLLY MAGUIRES

Chorus: Suck-in' up the coal dust, in-to your lungs,
un-der-neath the hills where there is no sun.
Try-in' to make a liv-in' on a dol-lar a day,
dig-gin' coal in Penn-syl-van- I-A.

Verse 1: We left old Ire-land, we left our homes,
a-cross the o-cean we had to roam.
With five gosoons and a scrawny wife,
tryin' to make some kind of a life.

VERSE 2: But the Welsh and the English, the Germans, the Dutch,
controlled all the mines, they didn't leave much.
A tar-paper shanty, no Irish need apply,
the Molly's started blowin' all the mines sky high

VERSE 3: A straw-boss shot and an owner disappears,
Many's a Welsh man lost his ears.
Company store burned to the ground,
the Molly's started spreadin' all around.

VERSE 4: Black Jack Peeple looked after his pack,
even honest Irish, they wouldn't fight back.
Checkin' his boys put fear in their souls,
The Molly Maguires were controllin' the coals.

VERSE 5: Well terror ends as it had begun,
Jack McParlan he ended the run.
He lived as a Molly and brought their fate,
after many years he ended the hate.

From: paddymac
Date: 17 Apr 00 - 02:08 AM

I'm not sure about attribution for these lyrics, but here's the version of "Peatbog Soldiers" I did tonight.

PEAT BOG SOLDIERS

Verse 1:
Far and wide as the eye can wander,
Heath and bog are everywhere.
Not a bird sings out to cheer us,
Oaks are standing gaunt and bare.

Chorus:
We are the peatbog soldiers,
Marching with our spades
To the moor.

Verse 2:
Up and down the guards are pacing.
No one, no one can get through.
Flight would mean a sure death facing,
Guns and barbed wire greet our view.

Chorus:

Verse 3:
But for us there is no complaining,
Winter will in time be past.
One day we shall rise rejoicing,
"Homeland" dear. your mine at last.

Chorus (2):
Then will the peatbog soldiers
March no more with their spades
To the Moor. ^^

Subject: Lyr Add: WHO'S CHASING DREAMS AROUND? (T Paxton)^^
From: Bugsy
Date: 17 Apr 00 - 03:23 AM

just did the one:

Tom Paxton's "Who's Passing Dreams Around"

WHO'S CHASING DREAMS AROUND?
(Tom Paxton)

Billy chased the diamonds in the mountain stream.
Shivered through the night beside the fire.
Spent his whole life chasing after just a dream.
Died proclaiming hope was never higher.

And Cynthia chased heaven on here dancing toes.
Dreaming swans, batons and bright bouquets.
Now she does the cleaning in her dancing clothes.
Now the old victrola seldom plays.

CHORUS:
Who's passing dreams around this morning bright and early
Might be better if he stayed in bed.
Maybe he ought to let us be, find something else to do.
God help me I've been dreaming too.

Leroy he liked racing he was doing swell
Folks who knew said he was rising fast.
Lost control, you know his car blew all to hell.
Now he's on the corner pumping gas.

Chorus.

cheers
Bugsy ^^

Line Breaks <br> added. By the way, the tune is reminiscent of "Me & Bobby McGee."

Harpgirl:

Sorry you missed the hearme session. Someone, I think it was Ed Pillow was really interested in hearing good autoharp playing.

It might be fun to pick a future session and get as many autoharpers to come in and play as we can find. Not to limit it to just autoharp, but it could be an autoharp friendly hearme session.

sinsull - I suggest you put "hearme" in the filter and set the date to about three months....then read the threads.

other then that, there is a link further up in THIS thread, click on it, and follow the instructions. it takes a while to downlad the script the first time....

yes, you can just listen, or join in the text chat.

Hi, Sinsull, welcome to the Mudcat. You can just listen, but there has to be another person in there for you to listen to. We always have a circle on Sundays at 7pm Eastern Time (United States). Other times, you can post to the HearMe Now thread, to let folks know you are headed in there, and usually someone will show up to chat or swap songs.

Hope this helps, keep asking question...we'll try to get the answers right.

All the best,

kat
