Subject: RE: Fifty Nifty United States -words & tune From: Bill Date: 15 Apr 97 - 01:58 AM Howdy, The music teacher at the school where I taught fifth grade used this song each year with my students. There were slight differences in the words, but they're close enough for me. I don't know that I ever saw the sheet music, but my understanding was that the song came from the writing of Ray Charles (which may or may not be true). Allinkausay, Bill |

Subject: RE: Fifty Nifty United States -words & tune From: GUEST,Lilly Teng Date: 01 Nov 00 - 09:38 AM Does any one know a tape or a CD that this song was recorded on? Who's the singer and what is the record label? Some of the lyrics that Janet wrote on her message do not go with the tune in my head, particularly one by one till you've given a name to every state in the USA... There are just too many words for the melody. |

Subject: RE: Fifty Nifty United States -words & tune From: GUEST,Confused Date: 09 Jan 01 - 01:48 PM Does the tune for "One by One 'til you've given a name to" match the tune that goes with "Shout them Scout them tell all about them"? I always thought the melody that follows "Shout them ....all about them" was the melody that goes with "every state in the U.S.A" |
Subject: RE: Fifty Nifty United States -words & tune From: GUEST,R. Leazenby Date: 08 Mar 04 - 02:51 PM The Song "Fifty Nifty U.S." is by Ray Charles ( not the pop artist of Georgia fame but the Arranger and conductor of the Ray Charles singers popular in the 50's and 60's.). Copyright is 1961. Published by Shawnee Press, octavo # E-56. The piece was orignally written as a piece to celebrate each state in the union of the course of one year by the Disney Corp. Each week the show would open with the first half of the song, then at the moment in the piece when the singers sang "Let's salute them now!", the film would begin telling about the state. At the end the show would continue to the end of the song for the finish. At least that is how I remember it from when I was little. I now teach this tune to all of my fifth graders for the last 18 years. Hope this helps. |

See these search results at WorldCat.org. Click a title, then, in the appropriate place, enter your zip code. Your best chance might be with one of the song books listed at the bottom. It's also possible that your local library system, or the nearby college libraries, aren't included in the WorldCat database.
