Good idea, we were planning on doing More on Toast on 1st May Bank Hol, but on re-examining the costs, it's now off the menu-

Perhaps a Staithes rehearsal instead??

*******************

ps Why 'ave yer got 2 threads running with same topic??

I'm at Staithes for a week from 27th December and am thrilled that Richard Grainger happens to have a gig there on the 28th!! I was there for a week while the festival was on but, as I had only just got out of hospickle and was staying at the bottom of the hill, I wasn't able to climb up to the top to enable me to partake or take part. I'm all recovered now though so hope to do lots of walking while I'm there

"Nice memory of an enjoyable time. Iffy picture of me..."
SO are you saying the camera can actualy lie?
I hope so, cos I find the picture that is supposed to be me very disturbing.

Never been to the Staithes fest before (although try to get to the singarounds in Saltburn each year). Remember Staithes from my childhood - used to go and stay there in a small B&B or go for day trips. Fantastic village brimming full of character.

Will try to get to Staithes 2009 - although we live in the Midlands, my Mum lives near Saltburn, so will probably combine it with a visit to see her.

Tim

If you want anywhere to share things or put things. Go to Esnips and sign up for a FREE account. You get a gigabyte of storage and can save music, photos or anything there and share it privately, with a group or with everyone. I use it for music a lot.

Seems the collection was for funds towards organising costs for this and future events and not for my holidays as I had hoped.
The weather was a little errrr inclement but not enough to spoil any of the music and drinking.
Looking forward to next years event now
Cheers

Hiya Cliff, as Nick said ,I was there on Friday night in the first little "room" ,in a little musicians session with Garbo, Gedpipes and amazingly a lady who played recorder to the same standard as those two were playing their whistles and pipes. I hadn't heard a recorder player THAT good. There was also a guy on melodeon and another lady on concertina who were also good company .
As Nick said we could have done with a little more room.
No worries we'll catch up with each other.

>>Where were ya Betsy.
Recorder ready but didnt see / hear ya!

He was in the Captain Cook on Friday night

Perhaps too much going on in the one pub at the same time in the evening so the three separate sessions rather blended into each other

Had a pleasant evening though and there seemed a good turnout.

Wasn't the greatest environment to try and sing in as it was very noisy - probably should have tried the room at the end

Probably come again next year if it's on

What was the collection for by the way, I always like to know what I'm contributing to?

Over for another year.
Great week-end & good music.
Enjoyed seeing singers from last year & hope to meet again next year.
Tony deserves recognition for his work in setting this up.
I might even buy him a pint on Thurs.

All these questions about time are difficult its a different continuum when at Staithes and in beer.
Seems to start early evening say 7 onwards?
But i was drunk so may be wrong.

See you Friday evening somewhere - which pub are people likely to be singing in? The one at the top or the one at the bottom? Went to the bottom last time we were there.

What time does it start in the evening?

Phew its Tomorrow!!!!!
I am deffo a begginer and looking forward to having some of the mysteries xplained.
Re timing your visits.
A I recall roughly the timings last year were.
Morning session in pub
afternoon session in pub
Evening session in pub
After pub closes
session in Big hut till you pass out.
Day 2,3 4 etc
See above.
Then in between sessions going round campsite listening and learning stuff,or I suppose you could have food and walk dogs etc..

By session I meant doing whatever it is you do accoustically(musicaly) when it is your turn.
This was fun
