Subject: RE: Lower Coke Sun 21 Mar From: VirginiaTam Date: 21 Mar 10 - 05:21 AM Pete, we can collect and/or give lift back to Strood. You have my mobile number. I have been practising Bonny Portmore. I may even bring She Moved Through the Fair out of moth balls. I have never done either of these or Siúil a Ruin publicly. Please go easy on me. I think I might give See Lyin, (or Sea Lion, She Lyin) Woman a go. I know it is not Irish, but it is a joiny in song. |

Subject: RE: Lower Coke Sun 21 Mar From: melodeonboy Date: 20 Mar 10 - 09:51 PM "I'll be flying around on the Sweeps weekend, between Medway, Maidstone and Farningham." Blimey, Don, first it's swinging from the light fittings, then it's flying around! I don't know what you're on, mate, but can I have some? As for you, Pierre, I'll see you tomorrow at Strood. |
Subject: RE: Lower Coke Sun 21 Mar From: The Barden of England Date: 20 Mar 10 - 07:43 PM Oh dear - the mind is BOGGLING at Red Balls. Takes me back to my youth and unrequited lust!! My legs are crossed and various appendages have suffered. John |
Subject: RE: Lower Coke Sun 21 Mar From: Richard Bridge Date: 20 Mar 10 - 06:12 PM You might not need the train |
Subject: RE: Lower Coke Sun 21 Mar From: GUEST,Night in the museum Date: 20 Mar 10 - 06:10 PM I will probobly fall asleep on the train after working all night and end up back at Waterloo East? I HAVE 4 cans of Red Bull so I should be ok and I am not working Sunday night. I wonder what would happen if I downed all four cans of Red Ball in one go |
Subject: RE: Lower Coke Sun 21 Mar From: morning wood Date: 20 Mar 10 - 05:58 PM Noted...I wouldn't want to end up with the "captains cup". Actually I think "sweet child of mine" is the preferred guitar shop riff these days. |
Subject: RE: Lower Coke Sun 21 Mar From: GUEST,Pierre at work Date: 20 Mar 10 - 05:56 PM Hers my plan to get to this event. Kidbrooke train to Dartford Departs 1043 arrives Dartford 11.03 The from Dartford to Strood. Departs Dartford 11.31,arrives at Strood well before noon. Subject: RE: Lower Coke Sun 21 Mar From: Richard Bridge Date: 20 Mar 10 - 05:39 PM It is my session: I give permission and Big Mary the barmaid likes them. Do not upset Big Mary. She rules what goes into your drink. |

Subject: RE: Lower Coke Sun 21 Mar From: morning wood Date: 20 Mar 10 - 04:51 PM "we should especially encourage Irish songs this month? " Judging by some of the other threads this must be akin to playing stairway to heaven or smoke on the water in a guitar shop ;-) Paul. |
Subject: RE: Lower Coke Sun 21 Mar From: Richard Bridge Date: 20 Mar 10 - 03:54 PM Oh jesus it is not possible to breathe in the kitchen even with the window open and a stiff easterly breeze coming straight in! |

Subject: RE: Lower Coke Sun 21 Mar From: Richard Bridge Date: 20 Mar 10 - 02:53 PM The hot sauce now needs to simmer for an hour before I cogitate sweetening and thickening. If I had a kitchen door I would close it since the kitchen atmosphere will be about as burning as mustard gas. Sweetening is tricky, since it involves tasting, and since one teaspoonful of hot sauce will turn a whole plateful of food into a vindaloo (give or take) tasting the sauce neat necessitates using extremely (er EXTREMELY) small quantities. |
Subject: RE: Lower Coke Sun 21 Mar From: Girl Friday Date: 20 Mar 10 - 02:11 PM Richard - we would love to hear your version of "Thieves of Peckham Rye", and are most happy for you to sing it. See you tomorrow. |
Subject: RE: Lower Coke Sun 21 Mar From: Don(Wyziwyg)T Date: 20 Mar 10 - 12:31 PM The one I catch is the 0952. That arrives chez Bridge exceeding early, 1035, or thereabouts, following which I offer assistance (get in the way) with the food preparation. Since I can't get to evening gigs at the moment, I try to squeeze in every second at the daytime ones. I'll be flying around on the Sweeps weekend, between Medway, Maidstone and Farningham. Busy trying to work out bus times at the moment. Don |
Subject: RE: Lower Coke Sun 21 Mar From: Richard Bridge Date: 20 Mar 10 - 11:38 AM I came on here for another purpose. I popped in to the pub to check the wares for tomorrow, but the beer is not yet on. A propos it is designated and "Irish Stout" by the brewers. I do not think there will be another beer on the (newly refurbished) handpumps but there will be bottled Nun's Pleasure (Bishop's Finger) and Focke F*cker (Spitfire) as well as yellow and brown fizzy drinks under pressure. Did I get a shock? Peter the Landlord and Nova (his Rubens-esque lady friend) have become affianced to each other and are leaving the pub. Just as I get them trained they go and I have to start on a new lot! So let's make it a good send-off for them. The Hot sauce is being made later tonight with red Scotch bonnets. |
Subject: RE: Lower Coke Sun 21 Mar From: melodeonboy Date: 20 Mar 10 - 11:27 AM Pierre: The 191 leaves Strood for Lower Stoke at 1152 and 1352 on Sundays. If you're thinking of the 1152, you can get a lift with me instead - I'm picking up Rachael at midday from Strood station. You should be able to get a lift back easily enough, either with me later on or someone else earlier. If you want a lift out there at midday, let me know! Simples! |
Subject: RE: Lower Coke Sun 21 Mar From: Richard Bridge Date: 20 Mar 10 - 11:27 AM That could be because Stroud is near Bristol, whereas Strood is near(ish) to Lower Stoke. Don, what time is the bus to here from Strood that you will be on? |
Subject: RE: Lower Coke Sun 21 Mar From: Pierre Le Chapeau Date: 20 Mar 10 - 11:15 AM There again I have looked on google and cant find anything. Re above . |
Subject: RE: Lower Coke Sun 21 Mar From: Pierre Le Chapeau Date: 20 Mar 10 - 11:03 AM I understand there is a bus from Stroud to lower stoke on a Sunday |
Subject: RE: Lower Coke Sun 21 Mar From: melodeonboy Date: 20 Mar 10 - 09:39 AM "which just might see me swinging from the light fittings." Now that I do want to see, Don! |
Subject: RE: Lower Coke Sun 21 Mar From: Don(Wyziwyg)T Date: 20 Mar 10 - 09:35 AM Absolutely not into stout. Hoping there will also be a bitter available, otherwise it's a mix of softs and coffee, which just might see me swinging from the light fittings. I'm much more placid on beer. I do come equipped with one or two Irish songs though. Don T. |
Subject: RE: Lower Coke Sun 21 Mar From: VirginiaTam Date: 20 Mar 10 - 08:58 AM Stout! That means it is dark and sweet right? I may just have some of that. |
Subject: RE: Lower Coke Sun 21 Mar From: melodeonboy Date: 20 Mar 10 - 08:51 AM Hmmm.... I've always considered stout an English drink. Didn't it originate in England? Also, in my experience, the best stouts are English (despite Guinness's multi-million pound advertising campaigns and market flooding!). Compare a pint of Goacher's Stout with a pint of nitrogen-charged Guinness, for example. No competition! I'm already licking my lips over tomorrow's offering! Chugalug, chugalug! Sorry - slight thread drift! I shall be singing as well as drinking tomorrow! |
Subject: RE: Lower Coke Sun 21 Mar From: VirginiaTam Date: 20 Mar 10 - 07:58 AM I could do Siúil a ruin though my pronunciation is a bit off on some words. |
Subject: RE: Lower Coke Sun 21 Mar From: melodeonboy Date: 20 Mar 10 - 07:34 AM I'm sure Growler won't need much encouragement to do an Irish song or two! |
Subject: RE: Lower Coke Sun 21 Mar From: Richard Bridge Date: 20 Mar 10 - 07:28 AM Perhaps as there is a stout on (and it has recently been plastic paddies night) we should especially encourage Irish songs this month? Bags I "Step it out Mary" before Brian does it to the chord sequence of "Tales from a raggy tramline". I might do "The Thieves of Peckham Rye too, unless the Leopards come and do it. Who can do "The sick note"? |
Subject: RE: Lower Coke Sun 21 Mar From: melodeonboy Date: 20 Mar 10 - 06:33 AM The stout! - hurrah! |
Subject: RE: Lower Coke Sun 21 Mar From: Royston Date: 19 Mar 10 - 08:11 PM Unfortunately I won't be able to make it on Sunday. I am just getting stretched too thinly, I fear, and have to get life under control before another week of travel and related crap next week. Ho hum. Sounds like some very good ale will be supped! |
Subject: RE: Lower Coke Sun 21 Mar From: growler Date: 19 Mar 10 - 06:16 PM I'll be there for a couple of hours, looking forward to it |
Subject: RE: Lower Coke Sun 21 Mar From: The Barden of England Date: 19 Mar 10 - 02:08 PM I wish my mind wouldn't do such things to Tams note - I read it as "Someday your Chicken's going to explode" - which on reflection seems quite apt. John Barden |
Subject: RE: Lower Coke Sun 21 Mar From: Richard Bridge Date: 19 Mar 10 - 11:26 AM The answer to the all-important question - which beer? DOUBLE STOUT PILOT BREWERY SEASONAL ALE FOR MARCH A classic cask stout combining the flavours and characteristics of three coloured malts and additional roasted barley. Generously bittered with choicest East Kent Hops. ABV: 4.1% Containers 9 gallon firkin |
Subject: RE: Lower Coke Sun 21 Mar From: naughtyforty Date: 19 Mar 10 - 10:20 AM Pierre, I have had a look at the trains and there are no engineering works planned for either your line or the Dartford to Strood line on Sunday - you just need to change at Dartford and trains leave every half an hour. |
Subject: RE: Lower Coke Sun 21 Mar From: morning wood Date: 19 Mar 10 - 09:37 AM I'd better find my passport. |
Subject: RE: Lower Coke Sun 21 Mar From: Pierre Le Chapeau Date: 19 Mar 10 - 07:53 AM Has I was saying> I have to go to work Saturday night and do a 12 hour shift. Take in travel time there and back it a 15 hour shift. I have no lift arranged to get to the Nags and the thought of public transport on a sunday with possible engineering works on route with a bus replacement service .I think I would rather stick pins in me eyes. which may just keep me awake on route? Has for replacement buses they go all round the world. I went to Tonbridge Wells once on a bus replacement ,clean shaven. Went via bloody Norway. Time I got to my destination the event was finished and I had grown a f,,k... Beard. and I had the same Fiasco home again. If anyone can give me a lift from the Eltham area or Lewisham area that would be great if not I will see you all at sweeps Regards Pierre. |
