Subject: RE: New Year's Eve Song Circle at SINSULL's From: Jeri Date: 29 Dec 06 - 10:13 AM But Edmund, I started out in New Hampshire, went to Toronto, came back to NH and will bugger off to Maine. I figure that's about 1,155 miles. Of course, I had to come home anyway, but let's just ignore that fact. This could be a lot of fun if we get snowed in The Day After and have to stay over for a day or several. Micca, have you changed your phone number yet? |
Subject: RE: New Year's Eve Song Circle at SINSULL's From: ranger1 Date: 29 Dec 06 - 10:05 AM But we love you, Mary! |

Subject: RE: New Year's Eve Song Circle at SINSULL's From: Charley Noble Date: 29 Dec 06 - 09:06 AM So a "bit" is similar in concept to a "piece of eight." Argghhh! Charley Noble |
Subject: RE: New Year's Eve Song Circle at SINSULL's From: Bat Goddess Date: 29 Dec 06 - 07:45 AM Actually, Edmund, historically two bits is twenty-five cents. US. "Two bits, four bits, Six bits, a dollar. All for Sinsull, Stand up and hollar!" She's worth a LOT more than that! Linn |
Subject: RE: New Year's Eve Song Circle at SINSULL's From: GUEST Date: 29 Dec 06 - 07:21 AM It looks like we get the prize for the longest trip to join in this feast of reason - all the way from Ottawa, via Montpelier, Vermont. Sins - I assume that's $2 U.S? Edmund |

Subject: RE: New Year's Eve Song Circle at SINSULL's From: Charley Noble Date: 28 Dec 06 - 10:16 PM I love chicken. And I know several verses about chicken pluckers: The next came in was a chicken plucker, And he was one mean sucker, Yes, he was one mean sucker, For to join in the jovial crew; For he'd plucked chickens from town to town, Rhode Island Reds to Leghorn Brown, And he'd plucked them chickens up and down – When Jones's Ale was new, me boys, When Jones's Ale was new! Cheerily, Charley Noble |

Subject: RE: New Year's Eve Song Circle at SINSULL's From: jacqui.c Date: 28 Dec 06 - 07:32 PM We'll be there and, as my dear husband has been told that he has to relax more to allow his vocal chords to work properly he's talking about getting very drunk. Lots of vodka required and a bed. |
Subject: RE: New Year's Eve Song Circle at SINSULL's From: kendall Date: 28 Dec 06 - 07:30 PM Holly, are you serious? You would rather feed chickens than be with this motly crew? The weather is supposed to deteriorate New Years Day, so that doesn't ruin the New Years EVE party! Hire a chicken feeder or whatever it is that keeps you anchored! You are too young to be ruled by timidity. |

Subject: RE: New Year's Eve Song Circle at SINSULL's From: SINSULL Date: 28 Dec 06 - 10:48 AM "Knock knock knockin' on heaven's door..." In Barry's defense, there was a moment at the Getaway when Mr. Finn finally sang out loud and clear - a shanty. I was hamming up the lyrics seated next to and below him. When it came to the line about the $2 whore, well, there I was and it has stuck. Two DOLLAR not two-bit. And proud of it SINS, the maiden lady |
Subject: RE: New Year's Eve Song Circle at SINSULL's From: maeve Date: 28 Dec 06 - 08:34 AM Perhaps if we sing a bit, the thread will leap up to the music threads: "La, la la la la, la la, la, la!" Joe? Kind clones? Please? maeve |
Subject: RE: New Year's Eve Song Circle at SINSULL's From: Charley Noble Date: 28 Dec 06 - 08:26 AM I'm not sure why this limerick comes to mind but maybe it will help buoy this thread above the BS line: Now there once was a widow named Brice Who kept her dead husband on ice; "Twas hard when I lost him, But I'll never defrost him; He's rather cold comfort but nice!" Cheerily, Charley Noble |
Subject: RE: New Year's Eve Song Circle at SINSULL's From: Leadfingers Date: 28 Dec 06 - 07:12 AM The main advantage of being a yooker is that we CAN get together a lot easier than you Transponders - The biggest disadvantage is that its a Bloody Long Way to Maine ! Wish I COULD be there , but we will have a good time at Chateau Trayton with Flying Cat and Mr and Mrs Admiral amomg others ! And THAT's only a reasonable walk across the town NOT a flight across the Pond ! |
Subject: RE: New Year's Eve Song Circle at SINSULL's From: maeve Date: 28 Dec 06 - 06:45 AM Returning to Sinsull's original topic... I'd love to say we would be there, but I have to to say I doubt it. The weather is expected to be poor, and I have chickens and schoolwork to manage. Sing pretty! Happiest New Year for you, maeve |

Subject: RE: New Year's Eve Song Circle at SINSULL's From: NH Dave Date: 27 Dec 06 - 11:38 PM Barry, that was a very bad choice of words. Sinsul is our good friend, and friends don't ask . . . or repeat slander . . . so, as they used to sing on Hee Haw, "you'd better listen up the first time." Dave |

Subject: RE: New Year's Eve Song Circle at SINSULL's From: Barry Finn Date: 27 Dec 06 - 10:52 PM Sorry Mary, I may have lost my mind, you may be a maiden lady. I will not ask you to prove anything either way. So why's that snowman across the street knocking at the door? LOL Barry |
Subject: RE: New Year's Eve Song Circle at SINSULL's From: SINSULL Date: 27 Dec 06 - 10:43 PM Barry! Have you lost your mind! 2-bit whore? I am a maiden lady and I dare you to disprove it! Melinda, 6PM sit down dinner followed by music. Breakfast depends on who is willing to cook but someone usually produces scrambled eggs, toast and occasionally bacon. Mudcatters worldwide are welcome. SINS |
Subject: RE: New Year's Eve Song Circle at SINSULL's From: Barry Finn Date: 27 Dec 06 - 09:56 PM Hi Melinda & welcome There are a few here (I'm in southern NH) from the Albany area & many of us attend the Old Songs Festival which is in your neck of the woods & we do get to meet each other in person there & at other festivals too. It's been a few years for me & I do miss it. Sinsull's a 2 bit whore but she's our 2 bit whore & pretty much loved by all. Aside from monthly sings she also hosts house concerts. Some of her performers are mudcatters (that's us) & some are not but they're all worth seeing & hearing. She also posts info on those concerts here. You could, if you wanted to, post your self as as a newbie & meet the animals or just hang about & get to know us better as you go. You could also check out the site & find out where other members are from & who here comes from around your way. You could also ask in a post for any folk music happenings in your area & see what up. Barry |
Subject: RE: New Year's Eve Song Circle at SINSULL's From: catspaw49 Date: 27 Dec 06 - 08:32 PM Melinda......Feel free to join and join in. We get hammered at times for beink "clique-ish" but we ain't. Some of us have been here 8 or 9 years or longer and this place itself feels like home so private parties like Sins happenings are often posted just as Judy said. There may not be much in your area but sometimes we enjoy the vicarious party as well!!! I'm in Ohio and I love hearing about Sins' parties.........a bit too far for this ol' dog to make it though. Spaw |
Subject: RE: New Year's Eve Song Circle at SINSULL's From: JudyB Date: 27 Dec 06 - 07:54 PM Hi Melinda - SINSULL has been having song circles at her house in South Portland, Maine, for a couple of years now, so we sort of assume everyone knows where it's at - sorry! My understanding is that SINSULL quite sensibly doesn't want to post her address and phone number where they'll become available to every telemarketer and spam generator this side of Jupiter, so she prefers that potential new attendees PM her (shorthand for "send a Personal Message") for details - if you're interested, it's easy (and free) to join Mudcat, and then you could send her a message and get the details. Hope that clarifies things a bit. JudyB |
Subject: RE: New Year's Eve Song Circle at SINSULL's From: GUEST,melinda Date: 27 Dec 06 - 06:07 PM I'm a little, or a lot, new to this forum, and I'm not sure what this thread is about. What/where/who is Sinsull's? If this is a public event, where is there more information? If it's a private party, how come it's on this forum? Thanks, melinda in Albany |
Subject: RE: New Year's Eve Song Circle at SINSULL's From: Bat Goddess Date: 27 Dec 06 - 10:40 AM Alice usually pours -- but only on items on the floor. Hmmm...that gives me another idea for a Christmas gift. And I don't mean a lifetime supply a DooDoo VooDoo! Linn |
Subject: RE: New Year's Eve Song Circle at SINSULL's From: SINSULL Date: 27 Dec 06 - 10:28 AM Actually I did invite several people who are regulars at the Song Circles. Once I knew how many were definites, both yes and no, I had a handle on a seating plan. It will be the usual chaos. Seamus and Clancy will be in attendance and possibly Asher later. Alice will pour. |

Subject: RE: New Year's Eve Song Circle at SINSULL's From: SINSULL Date: 27 Dec 06 - 10:25 AM Charley, Consider yourself uninvited. Anyone remember that great old movie called The Uninvited? Haunted house on a cliff, tortured young girl, balmy psychic. Great stuff. |
Subject: RE: New Year's Eve Song Circle at SINSULL's From: Charley Noble Date: 27 Dec 06 - 08:38 AM What do we do with the herring's head? Oh, what do we do with the herring's head? Herring's head, loaves of bread, We'll stuff 'em into SINSULL'S bed! Cheerily, Charley Noble |
Subject: RE: New Year's Eve Song Circle at SINSULL's From: Jeri Date: 27 Dec 06 - 08:13 AM I like pickled herring I like picled onions Pickled eggs can be alright, But they give you gas in the middle of the night... I probably need a bed. In this weather (ain't no such thing as global warming), I could pitch a tent. Well, if it weren't for the pet by-products. Jeri, Still in balmy Toronto, but not for long. |
Subject: RE: New Year's Eve Song Circle at SINSULL's From: Bat Goddess Date: 27 Dec 06 - 07:36 AM Linn won't bring a lot of pickled herring in sour cream sauce (unless there is a loud popular aclaim), but BG & 'Mudge at least need to eat some that evening. Gotta have herring. There's a couple other New Year's traditions we adhere to, also, but won't inflict them on anyone. (They can even be accomplished at home when we're not there.) Linn |
Subject: RE: New Year's Eve Song Circle at SINSULL's From: SINSULL Date: 27 Dec 06 - 12:31 AM Peter and Joanne said something about First Night commitments as did Fred and Julia. This has been a strange year for a variety of reasons so no invitations went out. As always the thread announces the event. I just need a head count to set the table. It would be great to see Nor and Eli and Bobbie. Sit down dinner. Cold antipasto followed by roast beef, roast potatoes, assorted veggies. Assorted sweets for dessert. No need for buffet donations although I suspect Linn will inflict pickled herring on us. We could use some wine, bread, and a lot of music. SINS |
Subject: RE: New Year's Eve Song Circle at SINSULL's From: Charley Noble Date: 26 Dec 06 - 07:43 PM I believe than Peter and Joanne (dorymates) are planning to attend. BobBi Keppel was also interested but wasn't sure if she was invited. Nor and Eli were not certain that they were invited either, and may have other plans by now. But Judy and I are definately planning to come, eat, drink, and sing all night (we have a place to stay). Cheerily, Charley Noble |
