Also have a friend who would like to come but is stuck for accomodation. Anyone got a spare sofa for Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights or know of a B&B with a spare room? PM me if anyone has any thoughts. Ta. (Fibs, told you I would try to do a reccy this year for our "BIG ONE" next year..your 30th and my 50th!! ;-) |
Subject: RE: Loughstock lll From: MudGuard Date: 31 Jan 05 - 12:09 PM No hurry, it happened a few times in the past that PMs I sent did never reach their recipients ... And as long as Loughstock III will not be procrastinated ... ;-) (I just added another word to my vocabulary) |
Subject: RE: Loughstock lll From: Fibula Mattock Date: 31 Jan 05 - 12:05 PM Hi Andy, did see your PM but am trying to finish a paper that's due in today, and don't have time to change the webpage, but will do in future, and thanks for the notice! (Procrastinating on Mudcat is a necessary evil.) |
Subject: RE: Loughstock lll From: MudGuard Date: 31 Jan 05 - 11:57 AM Fib, did you see my PM? Duly noted, and will start running around the building to ensure enough wheeziness for an episode of heavy breathing. Hm - does your mobile phone only work when it is moving? ;-) |
Subject: RE: Loughstock lll From: Fibula Mattock Date: 31 Jan 05 - 11:49 AM Duly noted, and will start running around the building to ensure enough wheeziness for an episode of heavy breathing. |
Subject: RE: Loughstock lll From: John MacKenzie Date: 31 Jan 05 - 11:26 AM I don't care who knows my mobile ubiquitous has a number and it's 07739 464742, and if you want make an obscene phone call I'd be eternally gratefull. Giok |
Subject: RE: Loughstock lll From: Fibula Mattock Date: 31 Jan 05 - 06:31 AM I'm not entirely sure where we'll be on the Friday evening... Fiddlers will have its own music on then, amd it'd probably be best to go elsewhere. We can always stay in touch through the use of the ubiquitous mobile phones - I'll email my number to you Letty. |
Subject: RE: Loughstock lll From: Letty Date: 31 Jan 05 - 06:12 AM I'm getting a lift up north (and back) from two friends who happen to be driving to Belfast. Will be spending Friday morning/afternoon in Trinity College Library, but should be in Portaferry by nightfall. Or at least, before the last Strangford ferry leaves. So, are we meeting in Fiddlers' Green that night? Peter, what's the location of the self-catering place (thanks again for booking) and do I need to bring my own bedlinen? Now, what to bring for the raffle...Hmmm. Letty |
Subject: RE: Loughstock lll From: MudGuard Date: 31 Jan 05 - 04:41 AM don't forget to bring summit for the raffle! Here in Germany, it is not allowed to remove pieces of mountains ;-) |
Subject: RE: Loughstock lll From: John MacKenzie Date: 31 Jan 05 - 04:39 AM Well there's meself as the booby prize, will that do? Giok |
Subject: RE: Loughstock lll From: Fibula Mattock Date: 31 Jan 05 - 04:31 AM Oi, all attendees - don't forget to bring summit for the raffle! |
Subject: RE: Loughstock lll From: Liz the Squeak Date: 30 Jan 05 - 08:15 AM Hey, we can do the Queen Elizabeth Bridge at the Dartford end... 3 lanes of M25 type traffic splitting into 8 lanes to get through the toll booths there, and then all merging into 5, of which, 3 don't go the way you want to..... I reckon if I can do that, I can do anything! LTS |
Subject: RE: Loughstock lll From: Peter K (Fionn) Date: 30 Jan 05 - 08:03 AM A word of warning about the M2, Manitas. At the Belfast end it's at least five lanes wide, different lanes leading to different places. Drivers adopt varying degrees of lane discipline (or none) several miles before that. Just don't leave it till the last moment before you strike out for those lanes on the far right! It's thoughtful that they've mentioned Stormont on your route. It's such a modest little place, you'd surely miss it otherwise. |
Subject: RE: Loughstock lll From: Leadfingers Date: 30 Jan 05 - 07:36 AM Looks like we are going to use up all the avalable parking space in Portaferry - and Eric is right about the road !! NOT a road for taking chances on at all!! I wont be there at three- but I will see you in Fiddlers green probably fivish ! |
Subject: RE: Loughstock lll From: Eric the Viking Date: 30 Jan 05 - 07:29 AM To those driving, be a bit steady if you are not over fast at cornering and correctting steering, there are some wicked bends on that road from Newtonards. I really enjoy the drive, limited passing places, quick bends. Mind you, my passengers sometimes take a different view!A week to go. |
Subject: RE: Loughstock lll From: John MacKenzie Date: 30 Jan 05 - 06:27 AM Them's not diggers them's Irish sports cars. Sure have ye's never heard o' the JCB GT? Giok [I'm in trouble again!] |
Subject: RE: Loughstock lll From: MudGuard Date: 30 Jan 05 - 05:51 AM Liz, you obviously don't know the road to Portaferry yet. ;-) |
Subject: RE: Loughstock lll From: Liz the Squeak Date: 30 Jan 05 - 05:17 AM Hey, if I drive, it won't matter how many trucks.... Lead Foot Lizzie is in need of beer and song! (and possibly some more medication and a weekend away from people, in that room with the nice soft walls....) LTS |
Subject: RE: Loughstock lll From: MudGuard Date: 30 Jan 05 - 03:22 AM As Liz, Mudguard and I arrive at the airport at 12.40 we should have plenty of time to meet you all in the pub at 3pm. That depends on the number of digger-carrying low-bed trucks ... ;-) |
Subject: RE: Loughstock lll From: Manitas_at_home Date: 30 Jan 05 - 02:59 AM Just a note to Fibula's information page. The AA (www.theaa.co.uk)site *is* recognising Portaferry but you need to set the button for Ireland. The directions seem to be much clearer and more sensible (when checked against a map) than Multimap or Autoroute (which has us launching in a straight line across Strangford Lough!). Subject: RE: Loughstock lll From: mooman Date: 27 Jan 05 - 04:45 AM Giok, We plan to arrive at Portaferry mid-afternoon on the Friday. I think the Icelanders will be overnighting near Belfast on the Thursday from what I gathered. Richard |
Subject: RE: Loughstock lll From: John MacKenzie Date: 27 Jan 05 - 04:39 AM One week today I shall be heading for the ferry from Stranraer. Arrive in Belfast about 17:30, may just park up at the terminal, rather than drive strange roads in the dark and head south in the morning, but I'll play it by ear depending on the weather. Is anybody else going to be around on the Thursday night or are you all arriving on Friday? Giok |
Subject: RE: Loughstock lll From: mooman Date: 27 Jan 05 - 04:19 AM It is fair at the moment Andy but will most undoubtedly be inclement by tomorrow week (;>) Richard |

Subject: RE: Loughstock lll From: Liz the Squeak Date: 21 Jan 05 - 05:48 PM Look for a couple who look like a cruet in an Italian restaurant... a short round salt pot and a tall chunky pepper pot.. .that'll be me and Mudguard... Manitas is the mustard pot, the novelty one with the round stomach and little legs. LTS |
Subject: RE: Loughstock lll From: John MacKenzie Date: 21 Jan 05 - 09:05 AM Not in Scotland where we count in Gaelic, that is so that others don't notice when we get it wrong. Anyway just because everybody else says it's 108 does that make me wrong? Giok [Who has stopped digging now ;~)] |
