Subject: RE: Loughstock lll From: MudGuard Date: 03 Dec 04 - 07:56 PM Are you not scary, Skarpi? I thought you wanted to write "scary" when you wrote "skari" (see your post above from 03 Dec 04 - 05:51 AM) ;-) ;-) ;-) |

Subject: RE: Loughstock lll From: Peter K (Fionn) Date: 03 Dec 04 - 06:30 PM I'll brief White Tiger on those tunes, Fib. But I'm relieved to hear that you might at last be tempted to venture beyond polkas! Larry O'Gaff's / Humours of Whiskey (it has plenty more names too) is just a plain ole' jig, by the way, in D maj. |
Subject: RE: Loughstock lll From: Fibula Mattock Date: 03 Dec 04 - 02:23 PM Oh yes, the latest polka list is: Britches full of stitches, Finnish polka, Newmarket polka, Jessica's polka, Dan MacDonald's, Maggie in the woods, Dennis Murphy's, Ryan's, and what I can remember of Maids of Ardagh (or is that Our Da? ;-) I will venture to try Humours of Whiskey... slip jig, isn't it? What key?? I'm shite at transposing... |
Subject: RE: Loughstock lll From: Peter K (Fionn) Date: 03 Dec 04 - 01:19 PM Letty, Larry O'Gaff's turns out to be what I know as Humours of Whiskey. It's got words! HERE in the DigiTrad. |
Subject: RE: Loughstock lll From: MudGuard Date: 03 Dec 04 - 12:28 PM Letty, both Erik and Erich exist in German. Anyway, Dutch is just Deutsch without e and s. Thus the Dutch version of "Eric" is "ric", Ltty ;-) Letty, do you really dare sharing a cottage with a Cadbury fiddle and me? ;-) |
Subject: RE: Loughstock lll From: Peter K (Fionn) Date: 03 Dec 04 - 10:56 AM Mudguard, some of the guys from Haste to the Wedding threatened to weigh in. I'll check up on that. (You can sample tracks from their excellent CD at the website.) |
Subject: RE: Loughstock lll From: Letty Date: 03 Dec 04 - 10:43 AM Andy, isn't the German version of Erik Erich? Erik is Dutch! Eirikr is the Icelandic version of course. Anyway, Peter: I'll PM you about the cottage! Letty (now learning Larry O'Gaff's) |
Subject: RE: Loughstock lll From: John MacKenzie Date: 03 Dec 04 - 07:48 AM Are they coming on a Saga holiday? Giok |

Subject: RE: Loughstock lll From: MudGuard Date: 03 Dec 04 - 07:00 AM Fibula, at least I can spell my own name - so I am better than scary skarpi ... ;-) And I did not spell Eric's name wrong, I just used the German version of his name! |

Subject: RE: Loughstock lll From: Fibula Mattock Date: 03 Dec 04 - 03:36 AM Nhhahahahha, MudGuard spelt Eric's name wrong AGAIN! Andy, for shame!! (I do it all the time too actually because I seem to know more Eriks than Erics.) |
Subject: RE: Loughstock lll From: Leadfingers Date: 02 Dec 04 - 09:49 PM The vagaries of the English language ,especially when used by nutters like me ! A Bashette is a small bash -Perhaps sessionette ? and in that case is an Omelette a small Omel ?? |
Subject: RE: Loughstock lll From: MudGuard Date: 02 Dec 04 - 07:34 PM Hm - can't argue with that, as my dictionary does not tell me what a bashette is ... ;-) |
Subject: RE: Loughstock lll From: Leadfingers Date: 02 Dec 04 - 07:13 PM Enough for a reasonable bashette any way Andy ! |
Subject: RE: Loughstock lll From: MudGuard Date: 02 Dec 04 - 07:07 PM List of Participants Fibula Leadfingers Skarpi + Band Liz the Squeak + Manitas + no Limpit ;-) John Giok McKenzie Letty Peter K (Fionn) + Sorcha White Tiger Erik + Skipjack mooman + pat erinmaidin makes 16 (assuming "Band" stands for 2 people - I do not know how big skarpi's band is) JudeL/JohnHenry/Where'sMyPint will probably not come. Subject: RE: Loughstock lll From: MudGuard Date: 30 Nov 04 - 08:32 PM Just checking: Skarpi, how much of that Brennivin did you have before that experience? Btw, To me, somehow, Brennivin sounds almost like Branntwein (brandy might be the English equivalent) - might the words be related? |
Subject: RE: Loughstock lll From: skarpi Date: 30 Nov 04 - 07:18 PM Hallo all , well learning the whistle is difficult but if you but your heart in it you can do it, no proplem just hopp in and swimm. I am trying to learn the whistle and it coming ver y slowly I must say. What can I say i am man I can´t many things at once so its either the Bodhrán or the whistle so I choose the Bodhrán for a start. I felt something strange tonight I was with my band and we where playing a song (Icelandic ) and I felt someone enter the room but no one came through the door, what I felt was that a woman came in to the room and she was listening to the music and the strange thing was that ... I can´t find the word, well I felt good .I told the others about this and one person was not liking this. This is not a joke. Well now I am gonna pray and then I am gone to bed. All the best Skarpi Iceland. P.s. The song was about the Fairy´s hmmmmmmm I wonder? |
Subject: RE: Loughstock lll From: MudGuard Date: 30 Nov 04 - 07:00 PM I thought I have proven (proofed? I hate English) already that I haven't learnt it ... |
Subject: RE: Loughstock lll From: Leadfingers Date: 30 Nov 04 - 06:35 PM You mean you havent learnt YET ??? |
Subject: RE: Loughstock lll From: MudGuard Date: 30 Nov 04 - 06:10 PM Ok, flights are booked (for some months now). hotel in London is booked ;-) Taxi share for Belfast - Portaferry and back is arranged. Place to sleep is organized. Got some foreign money with me (when will the UK finally join the Euro?). Anything else to do? I mean besides learning to play the whistle ... |

Subject: RE: Loughstock lll From: Peter K (Fionn) Date: 30 Nov 04 - 12:36 PM I've booked a self-catering cottage, close to the square, for Friday and Saturday nights. Two, maybe three, beds are unspoken for at present and are available at about £9 a night (depending on uptake), if anyone wants to PM me. I'm also willing to book Sunday night if there are any other takers. |
Subject: RE: Loughstock lll From: Skipjack K8 Date: 29 Nov 04 - 07:30 PM Session time! I's a comin'! Negotiations are still ongoing as to whether the Viking's Home Office Tag is valid for Ulster, as he should have been released from OFSTED on licence by then, but I have to attend the Lard Baron's Ball in Liverpool on the Friday night, and so my remains won't be loaded onto Easyjet until 11.40 Saturday. I have a hire car for €50 from Mary at Dan Dooley (good woman herself), have booked into the last available room at Adair's, and will be heading back to Belfast International for a lunchtimeish flight on the Monday. If anyone fits with any of those times, your company will be a pleasure. |
Subject: RE: Loughstock lll From: GUEST,Philippa Date: 29 Nov 04 - 05:41 AM Skarpi you can buses from Belfast to Portaferry via Newtownards, without going on the ferry (from Strangford// Giok was referring to his ferry from Scotland to Ireland I think). Check www.translink.co.uk journeyplanner for the bus route/times. It's not a difficult journey. (I hardly ever read Laughstock threads as they get far too long) |
Subject: RE: Loughstock lll From: Leadfingers Date: 29 Nov 04 - 04:57 AM Well whatever happens we are going to have a good time again - And THATS AN ORDER !!! |

Oei I am not gonna be alone In Belfast On friday the 4th, so if anyone is going by ferry to Portaferry we would like to know about that. I coult get lost, I am very good at it. I had a concert last night and it got okei, but here In Iceland it is very hrad have conerts becouse people don´t come to the pups until one clock after midnight, we had the concert from 21-23 so we had about 35 people . I would see more it will be in the future. All the best Skarpi Iceland. |
Subject: RE: Loughstock lll From: John MacKenzie Date: 27 Nov 04 - 05:07 AM Mmmm Brennevin, I've always wanted to try it, I hear it's an experience and a half. A small bottle for my collection would be very welcome, and in spite of being Scottish I would of course pay for it! Giok |
Subject: RE: Loughstock lll From: MudGuard Date: 26 Nov 04 - 04:26 PM Paul, of course I'll share the taxi - this leaves one seat to share ... |
Subject: RE: Loughstock lll From: MudGuard Date: 26 Nov 04 - 04:08 PM As was said before, I will be there too. I do not yet have any accommodation. If someone wants to share? JudeL asked a long time ago ... Andy/MudGuard |
Subject: RE: Loughstock lll From: John MacKenzie Date: 26 Nov 04 - 03:03 PM I arrive at the ferry terminal at 18:45 on the 3rd. Subject: RE: Loughstock lll From: Peter K (Fionn) Date: 26 Nov 04 - 08:54 AM Fibs, what's the new polka, and what others do you know? Or are there now too many to list? Maybe White Tiger can try learning the same ones, or she may even know one or two of them already. If Geordie & Co are likely to come down from Bangor, I'll nudge the guys from Haste to the Wedding, who were threatening to come from Larne. It offers the prospect of some red-hot sessions, especially if Skipjack and Eric turn up (in which case be sure they surrender their passports on arrival, to prevent any swanning off to Dublin). Hopefully there will still be a place for the more amateur-level stuff to which the likes of me aspire.... |
Subject: RE: Loughstock lll From: GUEST,Noreen Date: 26 Nov 04 - 07:04 AM mmmm....click here for everything you ever wanted to know about shark cookery.... I quote: "Bonito, a Pacific shark ... has meat that looks and tastes like swordfish" and I love swordfish! Wonder which variety they land in Iceland? Shame I won't get to meet you this time, skarpi- and all you other lovely peeps. Have a Guinness or three for me! Oh- and go to the quiz night in Fiddlers' Green on Thursday night if you're there in time- that was fun last year. |
Subject: RE: Loughstock lll From: Liz the Squeak Date: 25 Nov 04 - 06:48 PM Skarpi - I can't wait to meet you but I think I can wait a bit longer for the shark dish...... LTS |
