Subject: RE: Who's going to the National? (UK) From: Herga Kitty Date: 25 Mar 04 - 02:32 PM Kevin S I think you mean so little sleep.... although as far as I can remember, I've always made it into Sunday breakfast, even if I stayed up past 3! Kitty PS It's not been the same since breakfast became an optional extra rather than pre-paid... |
Subject: RE: Who's going to the National? (UK) From: GUEST,Rich A Date: 25 Mar 04 - 12:29 PM I'm sensing another brace from Beattie. I should stay in the bar. :) Rich |

Kevin: Are you 'Away' on Sat? Alanww: Sorry you can't make it but delighted at the reason, we will raise a glass to C&G at every opportunity. Dave B. Subject: RE: Who's going to the National? (UK) From: GavDav Date: 25 Mar 04 - 06:00 AM 10 o clock! In my experience, anyone properly wanting to remember Fred should be in the bar at 8am on the Sunday morning with a duffle bag full of cans of bitter. ;) |
Subject: RE: Who's going to the National? (UK) From: Kevin Sheils Date: 25 Mar 04 - 04:53 AM Mary and Kitty. Do you really get so much sleep on the Saturday night at the National that the clock change will be noticeable :-). See you at Sunday breakfast (I'll be in the dark glasses). |
Subject: RE: Who's going to the National? (UK) From: Herga Kitty Date: 25 Mar 04 - 02:33 AM Mary I agree it's unaccountably careless of Mr Heydon to schedule the festival for the weekend the clocks go forward - and him a rugby fan too! Kitty |
Subject: RE: Who's going to the National? (UK) From: Mary Humphreys Date: 24 Mar 04 - 05:24 PM I was looking at the Weather forecast for Loughborough on the BBC web site and have just noticed that the clocks go forward on Sunday. AAAARRRRGGHHH!!!!! Right in the middle of the National - and we have to get up and perform in the Remembering Fred Jordan session at 10 o'clock on the Sunday. I wonder how many folks will forget to put their clock on? And how many will still be suffering from the night before..... Mary |

Subject: RE: Who's going to the National? (UK) From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 24 Mar 04 - 11:55 AM Just heard Shirley Collins won't be able to come. That's a pity. From the way the weather is shaping, best bring your wellies, especially if you are camping. |

Subject: RE: Who's going to the National? (UK) From: Kevin Sheils Date: 24 Mar 04 - 07:04 AM As my 4 weekly stint presenting the live radio show "the Traditional Music Hour" on Resonance 104.4FM comes round again this Thursday I'll be playing tracks by guests of the National over the past years. I can only find the programme booklets back to 1992 in an obvious place (the early ones from the 60's on must be in another box) but there's plenty there for the show. You can only catch it on the radio in the London area from 2-3pm Thursday "usually" repeated on Fridays a week later between 7-8am. Those able to listen on the web can do so here , again you can only listen live at the web site, there is an archive but only one old programme of Reg Hall's seems to be there. See some of you Friday evening. |
Subject: RE: Who's going to the National? (UK) From: nutty Date: 24 Mar 04 - 06:13 AM Not sure that Treatise will make it this year as her husband Bill is very poorly. |
Subject: RE: Who's going to the National? (UK) From: GUEST,Special Branch Date: 24 Mar 04 - 04:43 AM Thanks to Noreen's clicky the inner sanctums of Mudcat's member's pages are now open to all and sundry, and a right lot of subversives they look too. Evening all, Groper of the Yard. |
Subject: RE: Who's going to the National? (UK) From: Herga Kitty Date: 24 Mar 04 - 02:31 AM Willa I wandered into an unprogrammed, spontaneous sing a couple of years ago - it's just a question of who's around when. There's probably a good chance of finding Noreen in the Octagon room, and Treaties if she's at the National. A song session also developed in the bar on Sunday afternoon last year. Kitty |
Subject: RE: Who's going to the National? (UK) From: Willa Date: 23 Mar 04 - 03:53 PM Kitty When is the singaround you mentioned? I missed it last year so don't want to make the same mistake this time! |
Subject: RE: Who's going to the National? (UK) From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 23 Mar 04 - 06:57 AM No worry - there's bound to be a lift one way or another. I've been looking through the programme. Looks good. Even without the stuff that isn't in the programme. |
Subject: RE: Who's going to the National? (UK) From: GUEST,DaveS Date: 23 Mar 04 - 01:30 AM McGrath;- There is usually a board in the main entrance where such queries and messages can be posted. Alternativly try checking out busses from Kegworth or Hathern or trains from Derby or Long Eaton. I am on the spot, although in no official capacity, so please PM me(DaveS I'm not on my own PC at present)should anyone require any information re local issues. |

Subject: RE: Who's going to the National? (UK) From: Herga Kitty Date: 22 Mar 04 - 02:17 PM Helen Catters have been known to wander into an informal (unprogrammed) sing in the Octagon room. Kitty |

Subject: RE: Who's going to the National? (UK) From: Noreen Date: 22 Mar 04 - 10:43 AM I'll be there (click) Helen (but not in that red top) and doing some unacompanied singing, so come and say hello, please! |
Subject: RE: Who's going to the National? (UK) From: treewind Date: 22 Mar 04 - 10:42 AM Helen - photos (for ID purposes) of Mary Humphreys and me HERE and we're appearing in the programme in a few events so come and say hello - and we can point you in the direction of a good few other Mudcatter National-goers who have posted here. Subject: RE: Who's going to the National? (UK) From: Helen Mould Date: 22 Mar 04 - 09:40 AM Kevin, how do I get to check out the photos you mentioned? |
Subject: RE: Who's going to the National? (UK) From: Kevin Sheils Date: 22 Mar 04 - 09:00 AM Helen As you know it's not a large place and I don't think that there is a specific 'catters meet spot. Some of us will be in the bar "from time to time" I guess. Herga Kitty and McGrath of Harlow have photos here (I don't) so if ypu recognise anyone just say hello. |
Subject: RE: Who's going to the National? (UK) From: Helen Mould Date: 22 Mar 04 - 08:52 AM Do Mudcatters meet up at any special area? I am going alone and it would be handy to meet up with some people who have tips on the sessions. I like to sing the odd unaccompanied song, but don't like to push in. I've been the past two years but not sung - well not that I remember :-) I don't have the teashirt. Helen |
Subject: RE: Who's going to the National? (UK) From: Kevin Sheils Date: 22 Mar 04 - 08:51 AM Theres usually a few going to the station and ready to share taxis back, or people offering lifts, KM. We'll liaise on it in the bar. |
Subject: RE: Who's going to the National? (UK) From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 22 Mar 04 - 08:30 AM Touch wood, it looks like I'll be able to make it this year. Just booked my ticket. Only worry, I'm going by train this year, and I've just noticed there aren't any buses from Sutton Bonington to Loughborough on a Sunday... See you in the bar. |
Subject: RE: Who's going to the National? From: Folkiedave Date: 09 Mar 04 - 02:39 PM Not sure why that first post came in as guest. As for the betting my money as always is on Jill and any problems with her general running I am sure there will be a doc to assist her. As for running a book, then I am happy to hold/start the Mudcat book on my stall. The stall will be open during the daytime and I am hoping most catters will visit with their wallets and cheque books ready to invest in carefully selected pre-owned books and vinyl. I will bring as many of the standard works as I have for sale, and for pride of place there will be an original 1892-1898 version of Child's "English and Scottish Popular Ballads". All ten volumes in great condition. Once in a lifetime opportunity to look at one of the standard works of folk song literature. Start saving!! No postage costs when bought at the National!! Subject: RE: Who's going to the National? From: ced2 Date: 09 Mar 04 - 02:14 PM Will there be any jockies to ride the horses, they seemed to be getting suspended in rather large numbers for indulging in practices that seem to ensure that they won't win? |
Subject: RE: Who's going to the National? From: Kevin Sheils Date: 09 Mar 04 - 10:48 AM I'll be there as usual, in the bar from time to time when not in an event. |
Subject: RE: Who's going to the National? From: alanww Date: 08 Mar 04 - 08:47 PM Oh dear! Its the way it is - good news and bad news! The good news is that my dear friends, Chris Gorniak & Gwynneth Holland are to be married and I have a special invitation. Brill!! The bad news is that it is on 27 March! So I now need to seek a refund on the two tickets I previously bought for the National for Sandy & myself and I will not get to enter the singing competition or to see the many good friends who will be attending, including Noreen, Herga Kitty, Bob & Sue vG, Mary Humphries & Anahata - and karen k & Judy Cook, who I met on my USA tour with the Shellbacks last year. Oh bugger! But then again I am looking forward to taking part in Chris & Gwynneth's joyful event! Anyway, have a great time everyone - see you next year! Subject: RE: Who's going to the National? From: Herga Kitty Date: 08 Mar 04 - 06:39 PM I heard today from John Heydon that Shirley can't make it to the National this year. And I'm singing in event 306 (so are the Threlfalls, Judy Cook, Jill Pidd, Sara Morgan, Moe Keast)so will completely miss the hour with Crucible and friends, which is event 307! Kitty |
Subject: RE: Who's going to the National? From: karen k Date: 08 Mar 04 - 04:47 PM I'll be there for the first time from the US with Noreen. I'm really looking forward to it. karen |
Subject: RE: Who's going to the National? From: treewind Date: 08 Mar 04 - 04:30 PM As hinted at earlier in another thread, it's now confirmed that Mary's one of the judges in the song competition! (and I get my five minutes of glory in the squeeze-in hosted by Bob Walser) Anahata |
Subject: RE: Who's going to the National? From: GUEST,stableboy Date: 08 Mar 04 - 04:19 PM Hmm! I wonder if folkiedave could act as bookmaker here... I think eliza's a non-runner this year, which is a pity considering her pedigree, but if the going is good then Mary Humphries and Anahata could be a good each-way bet. Crucible and Hekety have been showing good form recently over the hurdles, and the Threlfall stable have entered a couple nice looking fillies, but as usual there are a few Irish entries with a lot of experience of this course. The course demands a lot of staying power so it would be foolish not to put some money on Norma if you can get a good SP. Not so sure about Shirley as I heard from my connections that she'd been a little hoarse. |

Subject: RE: Who's going to the National? From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 07 Mar 04 - 12:36 PM This is the English one - not to be confused with the one the thread currently nextdoor is about, Ozcatters meet @ the National @ Easter?which takes place down under. I hope I can make it to Sutton Bonnington this year - something always seems to crop up (such as foot and mouth disease, or floods). It's a great way to get into gear after the winter lay-off. It brings together the bits about other festivals you have to scurry about to find out about, and leaves out the stuff that can sometimes get in the way of enjoying them. |
