Subject: RE: Obit: Amos Jessup - 14 March 2019 From: John MacKenzie Date: 15 Mar 19 - 05:12 AM Oh shit. At least I got to meet the great man at a Getaway, where he played and sang, almost non stop. I was his Secret Santa one year too. So sorry to hear he has passed, especially after the news seemed so hopeful Journey on Amos. |
Subject: RE: Obit: Amos Jessup - 14 March 2019 From: Roger the Skiffler Date: 15 Mar 19 - 05:09 AM We only ever "spoke" via e-mail but I loved his music and his humour. Our private joke when he was working on the Blue Plate Mudcat CDs was that, as I can't sing or play, I donated the silences between the tracks. He'll be much missed here and in his community. RIP, old buddy. Condolences to his family. RtS |

Subject: RE: Obit: Amos Jessup - 14 March 2019 From: Helen Date: 15 Mar 19 - 12:54 AM I have to say I am in shock. I read the other thread just yesterday and the news seemed to be that Amos was getting better but now, today, I have found out he is gone. I only "met" Amos on Mudcat but as I said on the other thread he has been one of my favourite 'Catters right from the start. Another good one gone. My sincerest condolences to his family and friends. |
Subject: RE: Obit: Amos Jessup - 14 March 2019 From: Little Hawk Date: 15 Mar 19 - 12:40 AM Amos was...is...one of the best people I ever got to know through the Internet. We never met face to face, but we spoke on the phone a couple of times. I hope we meet again in some other life or on the other side of this one, if it works that way. He was a true gentleman and a very gifted man in may ways. |

Subject: RE: Obit: Amos Jessup - 14 March 2019 From: Stilly River Sage Date: 14 Mar 19 - 10:56 PM I'll gently rise and softly call Good night and joy be with you all gnu, after reading your note about calling I was planning to do so during the day this week. Now I'll have to send my good wishes to Amos through contemplation and listening to his music. This is a huge blow to the musical members, and elsewhere to the serious, the silly, the political, the intellectual communities here at Mudcat. Here is the earlier discussion when he was ill - it includes links to a lot of his work. So very sad. Maggie |
Subject: RE: Obit: Amos died today - 14 March 2019 From: gnu Date: 14 Mar 19 - 10:46 PM He visited with a cousin on their way east of me. Spent the night. We drank and dined and Amos played the geetar constantly. It was lovely. Even though I had far to much to drink, I couldn't sleep after they went to bed. I was just jazzed up by the GREAT evening of music and art and conversation... amazing. Amos was bedded in a nice bed in my basement with an adjoining washroom. I searched You Tube and found one of my favourite tunes by him. I played it. Next thing I know, Amos was at my office door. You see, my speakers are on the floor and he was in the basement bedroom so the music/resonance was loud down there. He was kinda cranky about it. I apologized profusely. He was still kinda cranky. Hehehhee. What a gem of a human. Here is the tune... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-veXnXNRgc |

Subject: RE: Obit: Amos died today - 14 March 2019 From: Joe Offer Date: 14 Mar 19 - 10:10 PM Amos and LEJ and I made an annual trip to Hillsborough, North Carolina, for many years. I won't lie - it was because of the wonderful women who lived there. And I suppose we all watched over each other to make sure we didn't behave inappropriately. And then Amos upset the balance and moved to Hillsborough with his wife Daly, and we grew to love her, too. I started spending significant time with Amos back in about 2005, when Kendall came here to Northern California to do a concert with Utah Phillips - and Amos drove all the way up here from San Diego for the concert. I've seen him every years at the Getaway in DC since Lord knows when, and then I had more time with him when we started making our annual pilgrimage to Hillsborough - so we'd spend a week or more together making music and conversation, and not just the 3-day Getaway. Along the way, Amos became a significant and beloved person in my life. I'll miss him. -Joe- Abby, Dani, Amos, and Joe at the Library of Congress in September, 2014. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10156930964683260&l=6d83688730 |
