If there is any wisdom at all in "know thy roots", then Joey jamming with his roots was an act of frigging genius

Hey, Jed has posted a link in his blog on MySpace to a YouTube video of his rendition of "Wild Mountain Thyme" with a still photo slide show of pix from the festival as the video. Non-Texans need to check this out if for nothing more than seeing the Texas Scots with cowboy hat and boots wearing KILTS! Here's the YouTube link:

Juey sure looked like he was having fun. The song swaps and jams at the end of the day are always a treat. Hope to see ya'll there next year.

We all had a great time at our first Scottish Festival this weekend -so many nice folks, great audiences, fantastic music and lots of root beer! Joey had alot of fun jamming with the great Scottish fiddlers - something he doesnt get to do too often here in Burleson, Texas! We are glad we discovered the event and are hooked!

Good eye, some folks at the festival called it a pony and they were firmly corrected. The horse was happy walking on the grass or on the pavement, but was spooked by the edge between the grass and sidewalk. He was trying to jump over the edge when the picture was taken.

Sorry we missed you. We looked for you. The music under those tents was grand and we had a great time.

I was really torn, should I go or not, but in the end the pocketbook dictated I stay close to home and work on stuff here. The whole time I was struggling with that new flower bed I knew you would be enjoying yourselves in the shade of those tents and good temperatures.

Great photos Phil--and I love that minature horse! I wonder if it would play nicely with the dogs? ;-)

And a splendid time was had by all, weather notwithstanding. It was hard to eat lunch while be pelted by the fries/chips blown off of fellow diner's plates, but being surrounded by hundreds of people in kilts in the same wind had its charms. I spent the weekend learning how to work a brand new camera.
Here are some snapshots from the festival.

The music was great as usual. Lots of our favorite acts and some new favorites; the Quebe Sisters Band and Don Gabbert. Tejas Go Bragh!

Not bad out today. I'm not sure when I'll head over, probably this evening.

Wind would be lovely. Hell, rain would be lovely. Something to break up the insufferable heat. (She says without a thought of staying home)

Wind could be a bit of a problem ... but at least it'll help keep us cool!

We have a possible different weather ingredient this year--wind! Whoosh, but you'll all be bouncing across the stadium turf if this keeps up!

My friend Don Gabbert from Lubbock will join me on Sat night at 7 for a song and story swap ... my son Jaime will be playing with me all weekend and Hugh Morrison will join us for some of several sets, including probably a two hour set on Sunday afternoon.

Weekend predictions, and past experience say it'll be hot as hell! Doesn't look like rain'll be a factor - but possible T-storms for Friday.

No worries!

See ya there!

It is starting warm up nicely, isn't it.

The Friday lineup looks great so, day job and yard work willing, we are going to head to Arlington on Friday and spend the weekend. Saturday and Sunday could involve some tough choices – it doesn't look like there is enough time to hear everyone.

Will we see you out there, Maggie?

Looks like this will be a hot one instead of a wet one, though knock wood, it isn't forecast as a triple-digit weekend.

This is one of those festivals with a lot of on-stage mixing of musicians. That "Jed Marum and Friends" on the schedule for Saturday night is a set I have been encouraged to gather several players to join me. In truth I have a few guests for other sets too.

I am looking forward to the weekend.

The very same Art Theime - a recording of a radio show with interviews and singing from 1980 that Maggie gave me the last time we were in Arlington. I've also got a copy of The Older I Get, The Better I Was that lives in the truck. Good stuff.

"Art on the radio" ?? Is that Art Thieme? I have a few Art Thieme CDs and I enjoy them on my long drives.

It was a bit soggy last year, with rains before the festival and storms on Sunday before the gates opened ... but my nose is deaf (one too many breaks from too much park league basketball) so I never got wind of the composting quagmire!

I am hoping to see a schedule soon. I've been asked to do a pair of workshops again ...

Michelle and I volunteered to work the SCMA booth so we will both be there this year. No detailed plans yet, but it's still couple months until the festival. I've been driving around listening to the "Art on the radio" CD you gave me the last time we were in Arlington. It's still fun to listen to.

All things considered, I think I prefer the heat to the quagmire we had last year. It smelled like a composting barnyard and the mud was a challenge everywhere. And that's saying a lot, coming from someone who is native to the soggy Pacific Northwest!

There are several threads on this subject because the date was previously in the title. Avoiding the date may help this be a more durable thread.

It's near the end of the school year here, a few more weeks and we'll be through finals and graduation. Soon after that it's time for the Texas Scottish Festival. I checked the web site and the dates are up, but the schedules are still from last year.

June 6, 7, and 8, 2008 at the usual place, Maverick Stadium at the University of Texas at Arlington.

Seven weeks away, so plans must be about set. Who from our Mudcat Clan is going to appear in some form or other at the Texas Scottish Festival?
