Subject: RE: Lyrics needed !!! From: Bill D Date: 11 Sep 98 - 05:16 PM I looked at the thread title and ignored it, thinking it was 'nothing' I would care about...when I should have been here at the beginning, since I both follow folk music and have studied 'nothing' extensively. I took an entire course in Jean-Paul Sartré's "Being & Nothingness" where we debated such things as the 'phenomenological & existential reality of absence'........ and let me tell you, in all my years I NEVER saw a better exposition of the myriad aspects of 'nothing'! "Nothing ventured, nothing gained" I think I'll go sing "Nottumun Town" and "Talkin' Nothin'" |
Subject: RE: Lyrics needed !!! From: Ferrara Date: 11 Sep 98 - 01:02 AM Art, my husband (Bill D) learned the Talkin' Nothin' Blues with the following last verse:
This song was written with nothin' in mind, ...I'm not sure if he sang lines 3 and 4 or not. But thought you might like that last couplet. |

Subject: RE: Lyrics needed !!! From: Sheye Date: 10 Sep 98 - 09:29 PM let's see if i'm getting this ... (archibald has control of the keyboard):
- ya can't make something out of nothing is this much ado about nothing? or is it really something? That last statement is scary Allan!! There's some things that are just better off if NOT multiplied for perpetuation!!! (little smiley emoticon) sheye |
Subject: RE: Lyrics needed !!! From: Allan C. Date: 10 Sep 98 - 01:23 PM Well, you can't divide by zero because the result would be 1. Since 1 is something, one would have to multiply to perpetuate its current value. Either that or leave it be! |
Subject: RE: Lyrics needed !!! From: Bert Date: 10 Sep 98 - 12:24 PM Art, ...MULTIPLYING BY ZERO ! I think that's what this thread is doing. |
Subject: RE: Lyrics needed !!! From: Art Thieme Date: 10 Sep 98 - 11:41 AM A BLACK HOLE IS WHERE GOD IS MULTIPLYING BY ZERO ! |
Subject: RE: Lyrics needed !!! From: Largo Date: 10 Sep 98 - 03:52 AM Actually the song seems to be from early "Silent Circle"'s ones. Or "Heroes de Silencio"'s ...who knows... Cheers

Subject: Lyr Add: TALKIN' NOTHIN' BLUES From: Art Thieme Date: 09 Sep 98 - 06:45 PM Whoops, HERE IT IS! TALKIN' NOTHIN' BLUES (from the LP on Riverside--mid 1950's--Chicago Mob Scene) Well, I looked up the hall to the top of the stair, I didn't see the man who wasn't there, There was lots of nothing, nothin' at all Lots o' nothin' all over the wall, A predominance of vacancy.
There was a man on the corner, he was standin' around,
I went to the cupboard, the cupboard was bare,
I figured I'd better lay in a supply,
Salesman said, he said, What'll it be?
This song was written with nothin' in mind, |
Subject: RE: Lyrics needed !!! From: Art Thieme Date: 09 Sep 98 - 06:22 PM TALKIN' NOTHIN' BLUES from the LP on Riverside--mid 1950's--Chicago Mob Scene ...damn, He, folks, I'm SORRY! I can't find it anywhere...it used to be on a tape I made right before the old LP spontaneously combusted one day. Is real strange... |
Subject: RE: Lyrics needed !!! From: Roger Himler Date: 09 Sep 98 - 05:56 PM Baz, Of course it is a folk song. It predates the written record and there is no known author. And yet it remains popular still today. Certainly it addresses the life and times of the common woman and man. At allmost every folk circle I have attended, someone in the circle does this song. Roger in Baltimore |
Subject: RE: Lyrics needed !!! From: Art Thieme Date: 09 Sep 98 - 05:53 PM Hell, sure it's a folksong. I never heard no horse singin' it! Art |
Subject: RE: Lyrics needed !!! From: BAZ Date: 09 Sep 98 - 05:42 PM I would hate to cause a fuss or prolong the discussion but it strikes me this isn't a "FOLK" song or tune so should it be here? (ducks quickly out of sight......) Regards Baz |

Subject: RE: Lyrics needed !!! From: Largo Date: 09 Sep 98 - 08:30 AM The previous one should mean: "I ain't got no words, I'm so impressed..." I just wonder why this dam' "empty thread" is so dam' popular here. Yes, I've "miss-typed" and pressed enter key instead of Tab to change the field so that's how it went on. But if you folks would pay 1/10 of your attention and 1/10000 of your enthusiasm to "un-empty" same-named thread you could probably help me. Though, playing fool is much more easier and brings more fun. So, enjoy yeselves Cheers

Subject: RE: Lyrics needed !!! From: Ewan McV Date: 05 Sep 98 - 07:38 PM I don't know why everyone is having such trouble with this. Handel's Largo was a tune with no words. Largo's handle is a name with no tune, so there's no song, so what? |

Subject: RE: Lyrics needed !!! From: John in Brisbane Date: 03 Sep 98 - 11:47 PM Largo, because no one else would take your request seriously I searched the DT on your behalf. It produced the following: "Sorry, no documents were found which match your query." If I'm correct this is the first line of the missing last verse of an old Burl Ives song: MARY ANN REGRETS Sorry, no documents were found which match your query, I know you've no passport and your story makes me teary, Without boarding papers believe me the shit hits the fan, Say bye bye to Europe. Get a life, without May Ann. TGIF John |
