Subject: RE: Folk Singers who Have Died From: Larry The Radio Guy Date: 17 Oct 10 - 07:33 PM Allan s. Thanks for correcting me re. Tom Paley. I had heard many years ago that he had died, but never followed it up--it's great to know he's still alive and performing. One very obscure deceased folk singer who was an incredible guitarist, songwriter, singer, and entertainer was a fellow named John Antle, who used to play around the Edmonton Folk Club in the early 1970's, and then around Toronto. He also apparently played in folk clubs in San Francisco. Is anybody familiar with him? |

What about Paul Clayton? The Clancy Brothers? Bill Monroe? Lester Flatt? These aren't exactly obscure people. Meantime, living performers get listed, along with some musicians who can't be called folk by any definition. Weird. |

Great pictures of Stan in action, most taken by Sally Ashford. One photo is a street scene (a bit fuzzy), including Walt Robertson and Merritt Herring, both of whom are no longer with us. Further down is a photo taken of the "grand finale" of the Seattle Coffeehouse Reunion ("Geezer's Concert") at the 2003 Northwest Folklife Festival. Not everyone who sang in the coffeehouses during the late 50s and through the 60s were there. Some live in other parts of the country, and some have passed on. There are some great song fests going on Somewhere. . . . Don Firth |
