Are you not scary, Skarpi? I thought you wanted to write "scary" when you wrote "skari" (see your post above from 03 Dec 04 - 05:51 AM) ;-) ;-) ;-)

I'll brief White Tiger on those tunes, Fib. But I'm relieved to hear that you might at last be tempted to venture beyond polkas! Larry O'Gaff's / Humours of Whiskey (it has plenty more names too) is just a plain ole' jig, by the way, in D maj.

Oh yes, the latest polka list is: Britches full of stitches, Finnish polka, Newmarket polka, Jessica's polka, Dan MacDonald's, Maggie in the woods, Dennis Murphy's, Ryan's, and what I can remember of Maids of Ardagh (or is that Our Da? ;-)

I will venture to try Humours of Whiskey... slip jig, isn't it? What key?? I'm shite at transposing...

Letty, both Erik and Erich exist in German.

Anyway, Dutch is just Deutsch without e and s.
Thus the Dutch version of "Eric" is "ric", Ltty ;-)

Letty, do you really dare sharing a cottage with a Cadbury fiddle and me? ;-)

Eirikr is the Icelandic version of course.

Anyway, Peter: I'll PM you about the cottage!

Just checking: Skarpi, how much of that Brennivin did you have before that experience?

Btw, To me, somehow, Brennivin sounds almost like Branntwein (brandy might be the English equivalent) - might the words be related?

Hallo all , well learning the whistle is difficult but if you but your heart in it you can do it, no proplem just hopp in and swimm.
I am trying to learn the whistle and it coming ver    y
slowly I must say.
What can I say i am man I can´t many things at once so its either the Bodhrán or the whistle so I choose the Bodhrán for a start.

I felt something strange tonight I was with my band and we where
playing a song (Icelandic ) and I felt someone enter the room
but no one came through the door, what I felt was that a woman came in to the room and she was listening to the music and the strange thing was that ... I can´t find the word, well I felt good .I told the others about this and one person was not liking this.

This is not a joke.

Well now I am gonna pray and then I am gone to bed.
All the best Skarpi Iceland.

P.s. The song was about the Fairy´s hmmmmmmm I wonder?

I've booked a self-catering cottage, close to the square, for Friday and Saturday nights. Two, maybe three, beds are unspoken for at present and are available at about £9 a night (depending on uptake), if anyone wants to PM me. I'm also willing to book Sunday night if there are any other takers.

Session time! I's a comin'! Negotiations are still ongoing as to whether the Viking's Home Office Tag is valid for Ulster, as he should have been released from OFSTED on licence by then, but I have to attend the Lard Baron's Ball in Liverpool on the Friday night, and so my remains won't be loaded onto Easyjet until 11.40 Saturday. I have a hire car for €50 from Mary at Dan Dooley (good woman herself), have booked into the last available room at Adair's, and will be heading back to Belfast International for a lunchtimeish flight on the Monday. If anyone fits with any of those times, your company will be a pleasure.

Skarpi you can buses from Belfast to Portaferry via Newtownards, without going on the ferry (from Strangford// Giok was referring to his ferry from Scotland to Ireland I think). Check www.translink.co.uk journeyplanner for the bus route/times. It's not a difficult journey.

(I hardly ever read Laughstock threads as they get far too long)

Fibs, what's the new polka, and what others do you know? Or are there now too many to list? Maybe White Tiger can try learning the same ones, or she may even know one or two of them already.

If Geordie & Co are likely to come down from Bangor, I'll nudge the guys from Haste to the Wedding, who were threatening to come from Larne. It offers the prospect of some red-hot sessions, especially if Skipjack and Eric turn up (in which case be sure they surrender their passports on arrival, to prevent any swanning off to Dublin). Hopefully there will still be a place for the more amateur-level stuff to which the likes of me aspire....
