Subject: RE: Tech: Printer drivers From: Jim McLean Date: 09 Apr 07 - 09:21 AM I've installed two printers recently for clients. One was an HP all in one and the other an Epson DX5000. In both cases the instructions on the accompanying leaflet with the (win XP)driver CD gave a website to download Vista drivers. I use broadband so the downloading was fairly quick and they both worked first time, no problems. |

Subject: RE: Tech: Printer drivers From: Dave Hanson Date: 09 Apr 07 - 04:00 AM Many thanks Mick pm on the way. I've tried to download this several times, it's about 10 hours on my dial up connection, and it failed every time after about 3 to 4 hours. eric |

Subject: RE: Tech: Printer drivers From: JohnInKansas Date: 08 Apr 07 - 02:07 PM We've found HP "multipurpose" device drivers to be more like a virus than like real software, since they tend to demand that you let them "take over everything" and constantly whine, via popups, about "needing updates" that don't exist. We have "real programs" for most of the functions built into the HP drivers, and were constantly "turning things off" to get to what we wanted to use - and nothing stays turned off when you reboot. With WinXP, we've ended up deleting the HP drivers for our little HP1315xi, and just letting WinXP install "defaults." Vista drivers specific to your combi may not be "on the Vista DVD" yet; but you might get generic ones off the Vista disk that would let you use most of the functions, just be running a PnP install(?). (You might have to install the print, scan, fax, etc functions individually.) If/when you can get HP's drivers, you'll probably want to try them out, but we've found them more intrusive than helpful. You may actually like the way they work ... (Just to add a cheery note to your problems, of course.) John |

Subject: RE: Tech: Printer drivers From: Mick Pearce (MCP) Date: 08 Apr 07 - 12:09 PM eric - I'm downloading the driver for you. If you PM me an address I'll post you a CD. (You'd better confirm that it's the 2575 and not one of the other 2 before I send it - if it is one of the others I'll download that - it's about 25min for me). Mick |

Subject: RE: Tech: Printer drivers From: Dave Hanson Date: 08 Apr 07 - 10:34 AM When I bought it the retailer said I'd have to download the driver because Vista is so new, the website recommends 56k modem users get the CD rom but HP UK support have told me it is'nt out yet, what a fucking fiasco, my advice, avoid Vista like the pox. eric |

Subject: RE: Tech: Printer drivers From: mack/misophist Date: 08 Apr 07 - 09:21 AM Drivers are usually provided on a cd that comes in the box. Have you looked thoroughly? |

Subject: RE: Tech: Printer drivers From: Mick Pearce (MCP) Date: 08 Apr 07 - 08:50 AM You can order a CD from HP (at ~160Mb I can see why you don't want to download it on dial-up). Make sure you have the correct model 2575, 2575v, 2575xi). Mick |

Subject: Tech: Printer drivers From: Dave Hanson Date: 08 Apr 07 - 06:34 AM My PC died a week ago and this replacement runs on Windows Vista, unfortunately none of my peripherals will, so I got combi printer/scanner/copier, an HP Photosmart 2575 but I need to download the driver from the website, I'm finding this impossible on a dial up connection with 56k modem, do any technically minded catters know a solution ? Thanks in advance, eric |
