Eddie Stubbs is leaving? I could believe that it was his own choice, except that Dick Spottswood is being cut back as well. As to Eddie's statement--he is nothing, if not a gentleman, and never speaks ill of anyone--without Eddie, I will have little reason to listen to WAMU, and less reason to contribute.

Just discussed this with Ron by phone and he felt a lot better about it. I listened to Eddie's farewell statement and I really feel the decision was a mutual one. I suspect WAMU may have offered him a different time slot. However from what Eddie said, he has been working long, long hours for years in order to keep this show on the air while he worked elsewhere; and now he would like to use his energy and time to pursue some other music-related work he's been doing in Nashville.

His farewell statement was incredible. I was thoroughly impressed. It will be available on www.wamu.org and www. bluegrasscountry.org.

Also, Dick Spotswood has been cut back from 2 hours to one, but the second hour will be available on bluegrasscountry.org.

WAMU is making room, not making way.

Hard to believe that Eddie Stubbs is "Folklore"--and even harder to believe he won't be doing his show anymore on WAMU.

No more country music of the 40's 50's and 60's in the DC area on public radio.

In his farewell address, he stated it was a mutual agreement between him and the WAMU management--but it sure reeks to me.   I still wonder if he was forced out.

WAMU is making way for "Weekend Edition Sunday" so needed 2 hours of programming time.

Seems to me they could have taken the time after the end of the Big Broadcast (2 hours) and juggled the time.

WAMU is also cutting back Dick Spottswood from 2 to 1 hour--and putting in 1 hour of American Routes.

Music takes it on the chin again.

I suppose it's related to the WETA changes--WETA is where Weekend Edition Sunday used to be.

And Eddie says he had to make a lot of time sacrifices--often record his program after midnight in Nashville where he's now an announcer on the Grand Ol' Opry (since 1995)--then sending it up to DC. And he worked 7 days a week for quite a while. So his farewell sounded like it was a mutual agreement.

Still, I wonder.
