I like Ely Festival and shall be there again this year with Wrigley Head Morris. Problems are that it's not so easy to find song sessions. Plenty of music in the beer tent but you can get a little drowned out by the sound from the performance tents.
Last year's mistake was putting a song session close to an amplified performance in the next tent. I hope that they've learnt from that!

Just checked out the ferry prices. Esjberg, Denmark to Harwich, England. A horrendous £584 return with car. Can't afford that.
I can fly and rent a car for 10 days for half that price!

Now Ely Festival looks OK. What do you know about that one ?

Well perhaps if we knew the sort of music you like, we'd be able to tell you where there will be a lot of it.

there were a fair number of 'contemporary' folk music type acts I suppose on the Priddy bill of fare - which would annoy some people. But they were all pretty competent - they could all tune their guitars and knew the words to the songs. I thought it was alright.

Thinking more South East and Sussex than N. Devon. Sommerset is where Priddy is. So that's about as far West as I think I'd get. Otherwise thanks. And thanks welittledrummer. "Horses for courses", as they say. Hmm. One for one against. Keep your votes coming in.

I think that's Bromsgrove Festival, Chas! :)

As to folk clubs in the South, depends where you're looking for. Shammick Acoustic Sessions run on the 2nd Saturday in the month in Combe Martin, N. Devon.

And priddys near the Cheddar gorge - which is worth seeing while you're in England. A very beautiful and spectacular geological location - supposedly the nearest thing England has got to a canyon.

went to Priddy for the first time last year. Brilliant location in a sort of little valley round a village green. Good PA. a nice mix of guests. Takes place in big tents. So the sun made it glorious.

Sessions were a bit ad hoc - if anyone was in charge I didn't see them - so it was all a bit 'now you see it, now you don't'. No complaints from me, on that score though. if you were a young act there was a club tent but the spots were hotly fought over - so I backed off. theres a village pub - very crowded where there was a non stop session going on. A craft fair , camping site if you want it. I found a really good Travel Inn about 10 miles away.

beer very good, food better than usual for a festival. Yes I'd recommend it.

So what can you tell me about them?

Thinking of a visit over to Blighty in July for a couple of weeks and these should fit in with my time schedule.

Also. Are there any Folk Clubs open in the South in early July?
