Loads of English morris men (including me) will also be at Skagen as "guests" of the Silkeborg men. Not sure of all sides going, but includes at least Exeter, Ilmington, Shakespeare, Thaxted and Victory.

As well as dance performances we will be playing and singing as "Engelsk Musik, Sang & Jam" for two spots on Saturday evening before Donnie Munro and Oysterband.

See you there?

Yes Terry. I noted the LPSO was there. Along with the Harbour Band from Stavanger. Big Bill is a mate of mine. We have a gang from Oslo that have been going there for years. It's hteir summer break. A couple of years ago Donavan was there! Imagine! It was good then. I did one of the first ones when it was a small festival way back in 1972. Sang in the park.

ah, memories.

Chas

My very limited experience of the UK ~ a brief one-week visit back in August of '04, during the greatest heat wave in European history ~ included a visit to Ely. My brother, who works as a schoolteacher for dependent children of US military personnel at Lakenheath RAF base, lives in a small village several miles away. Ely is the nearest railway stop; we drove there to visit a while, and then to catch a train to Cambridge for some more sightseeing before changing trains for a day and night in London (followed by the return trip, of course).

I wasn't there for the festival, of course, but since Ely is the one small English city (and, along with Cambridge, one of the two festival sites) that I know at all, I can imagine myself there whenever I read about the annual event.

The huge medieval cathedral, alone, is worth a look-see. I would guess that the town's small size and relative isolation in a rural area would contribute to a convivial and not-too-crowded atmosphere. Have fun, and let me know all about it!

Oh dear. Feastival. Might have to eat my words.
Er I've heard good things from past festivals at Ely. I also prefer the smaller ones. So I might be tempted to come on over. Although Skagen, Denmark is on at the same time.

Ely festival is one of the 4 I will not miss. The camping ground is good, nice and flat, there are plenty of loos that are emptied every morning. Food on site (including Moor & Coast and Chez Nous along with some vegie only establishments), and it's all on site, with a courtesy bus to and from town every 20 minutes or so. Looks like a pretty good line-up this year, as it was last year. In other words, go, it's a good festival.

Is a Feastival a bit like a festival?
Cheers :)

I went for the first time last year but spent more time at the supermarket than any concerts!

Saw about 20 mins of the Bushbury's set, saw a young band who's name escapes me currently but whho were very good and had great fun playing with Jan's massive hula hoop from her van!

Seems like a good festival, if I go this year I hope to see a little more of it.

Ely is quite nice (I have not been for two years but will go again this year). Range of performers, I'd like more hard core English traditional song, but I always say that. A small festival in which you can interact with the professionals, not many sings during the days, but the bar tent in the evening and after closing time can be magnificent (so long as no-one hides your capo.....) oh, and so long as you don't drink two bottles of Chateau-neuf du Pape.... - or PINTS of Kenny Cramp's Double Vision.....

Where else can you amiably get called an animal by Ian Bruce for drinking a can of Red Stripe at 8 am?

Discounted bringing my car over as too expensive. So change of plans and change of venue.

I've seen the website, but whats it like at the Ely Festival?

Chas
