Excellent! The numachi site is exactly what I was looking for. I will admit that I am VERY new to this music in some sense. I have been doing Ren Faire's for years but really have not paid much attention until I started going to this Irish pub called "The Harpe and Thistle" in St. Pete, Florida. There I've heard wonderful songs that make pop radio seem more shallow than I had previously thought. "I am but a lad of twenty and three," and this type of music generally isn't marketed to my demographics. I find the music enjoyable, and I want to learn some of my favorite tunes. thanks for all of the responses.

LOL. And as far as using a search engine... Yes, I DID try that, hehe.. Thanks for the advice, though, whoever you are.

Of course - but "sheet music" can ALSO mean simply "transcription of the tune in musical notation".

Also, the Levy site has sheet music back to what, the early 1800's? I would say almost 200 years is not only long enough for copyright to expire, but also long enough for songs to enter the "folk tradition". Granted, this is open to interpretation, but "folk" does not (IMO) have to equal "early music"

"Wild Mountain Tyme", no, but Tannahill's original "Braes of Balquither" is in the Levy collection (Mudcat's Links, but not yet pictured on-line), as is his "Louden's Bonnie Woods", also "Annie Laurie".

I, however, have troubles with the concept. To me sheet music implies copyright, and copyright implies non-folk.

Thanks to MMario for letting us know in another thread that Yet Another Digital Tradition is back online. This site has the Digitrad tunes available in various formats.

then look thru the hundreds of HITS...

Go to the top of the threads page and choose "do a forum search"; from there fill in the blanks and see what comes up. If nothing turns up, go back and redo the info you typed in. It sometimes takes a little patience.***smile***

I know there have been several places in threads that mention specific books and places to download free stuff. One in particular, I started called "Irish and Scottish Fiddle Music Books?"

Good luck and I am sure others will post with better and more specific info.

I am quite a newbie at the Mudcat, and to the online folk community in general. Thanks to all those that are answering my questions!

Anyway, many online searches for folk sheet music have turned up nothing for me. Does anyone out there know of a good company, whether online or not, that has a large collection of folk sheet music? (Especially in the realm of IRISH tunes...)

Looking for tunes such as "Beggars to God," "The Star of the County Down," "Wild mountain Thyme," etc... Thanks!
