The background to this is explained in my BS post " Postcard from Kalymnos 2007".

THE BALLAD OF RUPERT AND STELLA

(Tune: Frankie and Johnny. Words: Thimbles O'Hooligan, the Washboard of Mass Destruction)

Rupert and Stella were lovers who lived in old Ascot Town
Rupert liked betting on horses, which made poor Stella frown
[CHORUS] He was her man; but he let her down (so bad)

Rupert went up to the High Street, he told Stella he needed a mac'
Instead he went to the ATM, and then into the track
CHORUS

Rupert put on his wager, his friends told him it was a cert
He didn't only lose his cash, he damned near lost his shirt
CHORUS

Rupert crept into the hallway, as quiet as a guilty man
Stella was waiting behind the door, she hit him with the frying pan
CHORUS

Stella went up to the courthouse, the judge was Mrs Justice Blair
She said: "Your man was a gambler? Girlfriend, we've all been there"
CHORUS

"No woman will find you guilty, we've all had the problem you share
It's either women, drink or gambling, or guitar playing we have to bear"
CHORUS

They're taking Rupert to the graveyard, all his friends from the Ascot track
And everyone is taking bets, long odds he won't be back
CHORUS

This story had no moral, just a lesson for every man
Sing, play or gamble all you want, but look out for that frying pan
CHORUS
