I'm trying to get a venue for dance at our festival which is on True Lover's Walk. Wonder if that street featured in your novel?

Acutally, the "love burrow" of the East Midlands is down the road, in Shepshed. It's allegedly got quite a substantial red light district.

I remember reading a novel many tears back where Loughborough was referred to as Love Burrow.

Can't recall the title or author though.

...and near where my boyfriend lives in Cheshire, there's a place called Cholmondley, which DOESN'T tell you how to pronounce it on the place name sign.

There's a Wymondham in Leicestershire which is pronounced like it's spellled - unlike The Wymondham in Norfolk which is pronounced Windam.

And don't get me started on the Vale of Belvoir - I came across an 18th century map recently that spelled it Bever, and certainly it's pronounced Beaver today.

...sorry, weren't we talking about dancing or something?

But one American tourist was reported to ask for directions to

Tweeksburg - the town the locals tend to call Chucksbury

and the correct spelling has 2 "e"'s

Tewkesbury.

And in Devon there is a town called Woolhardisworthy - The Place name sign has underneath (Pronounced Woolsely)

Aaaah...see, round these parts, people often claim to have been the person who was flagged down by an AUSTRALIAN tourist and asked, "Can you tell me the way to Loogabarooga, mate?"

Mind you, I won't tell you how my (American) mum used to pronounce Leicestershire...

Way Back in the Good Old Days , Brimmo was Ooop North and was talked into giving a lift back to London to an American Singer (Sorry - Name escaped) who Brimmo greatly admired ! He thought there would be lots of opportunity yo chat , but said 'Super Star' settled down on the back seat with his girl friend , and only surfaced as a Road Sign was in view - "Loogabrooga ! " he said , and subsided back into the darkness at the rear of the car !
