seems to me if we paid to go to a festival advertising certain musicians
we should be told ahead of time we're going to be assigned to arbitrary classes not of our choice.

anyway you spin it it tells us a lot about his character...
I should say that Brendan McGlinchey, Kevin Burke and others at the festival more than made up for Glackins arrogance.

Seems to me that if Paddy was being paid to teach 18 people, he shouldn't be expected to have to teach the rest as well. And the ones who actually signed up to the correct class had the right to get Paddy's full attention.

Anyway this is a thread about a TV program. If you want to slag off Paddy Glackin do it in your own thread.

I know this is a side note..
one of the programs features Paddy Glackin,
while at one time I admired his playing - I was shocked at what a jerk he was when we attended the Bostons Gaelic Roots festival a couple of years ago.

When we came to his class, the first thing he did he looked around at
the number of people (there were maybe 35 people in the room) and said
'theres 18 people that are on my assigned class list and Im not playing until everyone whos not on the list leaves'

asshole.

In my opinion he should have been honoured at the number of people who came to his class.. This is also a festival that we paid a lot of money and came to attend from a long way..

It wasnt actually clear from the festival info that we would assigned
and had to stay in specific classes - so when some of us who were thrown out from Glackins class complained we were told we can have our money back..

yeah sure, and what do we do the rest of the time in Boston, hang out in Cheers?

I logged onto the RTE site but the programs won't play, although I have Real (fairly recent) and Windows Media Player (fairly old), plus a few others installed.

I'm considering installing a more up-to-date version of Media Player, but I hope it won't try to take over my system (I don't like MS programs for this reason!). I've got a fairly delicate balance now with 2 FLV viewers for YouTube videos that I download, Real for Real files, Cdex for converting formats, Soundforge for editing, Winamp for playing MP3s, a selection of programs for playing and editing MIDIs, various codecs, etc. Why does it have to be so complicated?

Don

PS a live concert of Lunasa is running on RTE radio right now--sounds great!

Refresh for those who might have missed this a couple of weeks ago.

All 6 programs are now on the website. This is really excellent music and well worth a listen.

Glad to hear its sunny in Cork. It's still very showery here in Dublin.

I'm heading off to (hopefully) sunny Miltown Malbay tomorrow for 10 days.

I've been listening to this programme and am really enjoying it. Lovely clear high-quality trad playing with no hype, effects or background razzamatazz. Just the pure drop. Catch it if you can.

Bonnie down in sunny(!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) Cork

RTE have been running a series of half hour programs featuring two great traditional musicians each week. Featured to date have been Liam O Flynn & Paddy Glackin, Michael McGoldrick & Dezzi Donnelly, Liam O Connor & Sean McKeown. Tonights program was excellent featuring Matt Molloy & John Carthy. Still to come are Josephene Marsh & Mick Kinsella and Maighréad Ní Mhaonaigh & Dermot Byrne.

The good news is that the programs shown to date are available in full on line at www.rte.ie/tv/thefullset. I presume the other programs will be on there once they have been broadcast.
