Subject: RE: Tune for Twa recruitin' Sergeants From: Gordon Dougherty Date: 29 Apr 99 - 07:43 AM Thank-you all for the information...Ewan: I found a recording on cassette in my local public library by Jeannie Robertson, singing her version of the song - quite wonderful! |
Subject: RE: Tune for Twa recruitin' Sergeants From: Ewan McV (inactive) Date: 18 Apr 99 - 05:15 AM The tune is substantially a 6/8 version of Over The Hills And Far Away or Tom Tom The Piper's Son. This does not answer Joe's question, just responds to it. Isla St Clair is the singer's name. The song was made famous through the singing of Jeannie Robertson of Aberdeen. I don't know what recordings of hers are still available in the US, there are criminally few about here in scotland at present. |

Along with about twenty other very fine versions of other traditional songs. http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/Gavin_Browne/homepage.htm Don |
Subject: RE: Tune for Twa recruitin' Sergeants From: Joe Offer Date: 16 Apr 99 - 12:25 PM Hi, Gordon - I pasted a link to the lyrics for the song into your message. If you look on the top of the lyrics search results page, you'll see links to search for recordings of the song at various retailers (and Mudcat gets a contribution from the retailers if you buy through our link). You'll find that CDNOW has a CD with that song, "Isla St.Clair - Tatties & Herrin The Land " (I don't know which is the group and which is the album title). -Joe Offer- |
