One by one friends I have known via the folk scene pass away. It's inevitable, but saddening none the less. I knew Tom from the many times I sang in Guilford years ago, and always loved his singing. He had a fine voice and knew how to use it to let the song shine through. I haven't seen him in a long time and it hurts to know that I didn't get to say goodbye. But I will remember him, and his singing. Condolences to his family.    Mention of the Berry's club brings back very good memories too. Anybody know how they are nowadays?, Burl.

Lawrence Heath reported in Tuesday's Sidmouth newsletter that Tom Dillon passed away on Wednesday 1st August after a yearlong fight against prostate cancer. He worked on the railway before his retirement.

He was a regular on the Guildford folk scene from the 1960s onwards and told me stories of the Star Folk Club run by Mark amnd Margaret Berry. He was a wonderful Irish baritone whose excellent balladry was a joy to listen to. I shall never forget that resonant voice. I sense that his reticence in performing was due to his worry about making a fool in himself upon tripping over the lyrics. He was a regular at The Volunteer at Sidmouth.

Few recordings of him were made to my knowledge, and wonder if anyone else made the effort.
