The photos of the concert are now up on myspace.

Go to www.myspace.com/borderlinefolk

Click on my pictures and then click on the thumnail of each individual photo to enlarge it to viewable size.

I do not know how to make the blue link so if anyone can do it for me here on this thread I would appreciate it.

All photos are by Nathan Gross (aka Little Brother on Mudcat).

I don't know if anyone posts pictures on Mudcat anymore. The easiest thing would probably be for you to upload them onto your myspace page and then I can download some, and also you can post a link to your myspace page for all to see. Maybe I should wait and see how the guitar player came out before we invite the world to have a look!

Thanks for doing this.

Aha! We flushed out a lurker! It's true, Allan and Arden are our favorite groupies. And Allan is our official volunteer (sometimes conscripted) photographer. But here's one I took of them in the front row with camera and knitting in hand after the encore at a recent Shoregrass concert!

Well Barbara, after last Saturday night Shoregrass is no longer unknown. That is the job of venues like the Borderline; to discover new talent and bring it to light. There are many new aspiring performers out there just waiting for their chance. We will do our part to see that they get noticed.

P.S.
The other thing I meant to mention is that it is all because of the Mudcat that Sol and ShoreGrass came to meet each other. We both had myspace pages and asked other mudcatters to be our "friends" on myspace. And the rest is history...

Wow! Thanks so much for the kind words, Sol. This was our first house concert, and it's a fantastic way to make music up close and personal with an audience that is there to listen. And I have to say that was one of the best audiences we've ever played for.

Folks, Sol & Fay are wonderful people. They are helping to keep the music alive and doing it with tremendous graciousness and good nature. We were instantly comfortable when we got there. And the reputation they have built for finding good music from the many, many that they listen to every week draws people out to hear total unknowns like us. It was a full house, and I think they all went away smiling. And the host, Steve Shapiro was very generous in providing such a fine, acoustically perfect house for the event.

It was a great night all around and I really appreciate the trust that Sol put in us to bring bluegrass to the Borderline Folk Club for the first time in 10 years. One more wow!

The concert took place last night and it was our best ever. Shoregrass was simply superb and really inspired the audience. Everyone was totally involved with the music and you could see by the expression on their faces how enormous their enjoyment was. I am still getting phone calls and e-mails congragulating us on our selection of these fine professional performers for our venue. There will be photos up shortly and when they are available I will post here to let everyone know where they can be viewed. Barbara and the boys: Congragulations on a job well done. You made us all proud last night.

This is the last call for this concert tomorrow night. We still have some seats left.

Please be aware that because of the Sabbath I can not answer my phone or be on the computer from 4 PM today until 5:45 PM tomorrow night.
You can leave a message on my telephone answering machine or send an e-mail. All phone calls and e-mails will be returned tomorrow night at 5:45 PM which will still leave you 2 hours to get to the concert by 8PM.

Scanner, thanks for the comments. You have my permission to call it whatever you like, and I think your description is very appropriate. We do a little of a lot of things like bluegrass, folk, old-timey, blues, originals... In fact, we've never done the same setlist twice in almost 10 years, so we're always trying out new things.

And I've got a brand new banjo joke!

Shoregrass plays a gentle, but lively kind of bluegrass that speaks to the heart & mind. It's on the borderline; perhaps with Barbara's permission we can call it folkgrass. Those who attend will not be bored. They might even institute a bad banjo joke contest. They are definitely worth the effort to attend. The Borderline also serves delicious cakes & other refreshments & it's all included in the admission price.

Today, we received significant airplay from Carol Beaugard on her show, Lonesome Pine, broadcast on radio station WFDU FM. She played "The Letter" which is the first track on the new album "Going Home". Carol plugged our concert twice and people called in immediately while she was still on the air to make reservations. It looks like we will get a significant turnout for this event.

Heard some of our new songs on an NPR station the other night. That may be old hat to some of you, but it was a huge kick for me. What a wonderful thing it is to be involved in this music-making. We're recovering from the NOMAD festival in New Haven (lots of fun!) and are now focusing on putting together two good sets for this upcoming house concert in New City. Our band repertoire is laughably overgrown and still growing - something like 200 songs and we have never done the exact same set twice - so the trick is to narrow down the list! Since we have a new album out (GOING HOME) we're going to definitely do a few from that.

Sincerely hope Rabbi-Sol's faith in bringing our bluegrass to Borderline is well placed and that a whole houseful of folks come out to hear it!

This is another thread I'm interested in (the other is NOMAD 2007) that doesn't have much chatter except from me. I'll just assume that several million lurkers are reading it but not posting.

Just finished a rehearsal with the band, trying to remember how we recorded some of our new songs so we can repeat the feat live at our upcoming gigs! Actually, what happens is that some of the songs get better AFTER the recording is over...

OK, no more rambling. Just wanted to keep this thread alive in case there are any folks in traveling distance of the New City area who might notice this and come out for some fresh bluegrass on the 17th.

The advance response to this Bluegrass concert seems to be more enthusiastic compared to what we usually get for the standard Folk concerts. It also seems to be attracting a somewhat younger crowd.

I hear Ron Olesko has a special program this coming Sunday, an interview with Jim Brown, director of the new documentary film "Pete Seeger: The Power of Song." So I don't know if he'll get to any ShoreGrass songs.

I usually listen to Ron Olesko's show every Sunday on a regular basis. However, this Sunday we will be celebrating Sol's 65th birthday at a Rod Picott house concert in Belvedere, NJ.and will not be able to catch the show. I would appreciate if any other mudcatters would be able to listen this Sunday and inform Barbara which cuts Ron Olesko plays so that she could include those songs in the Borderline show November 17th.

Just sent off a copy of our new CD "Going Home" to Ron Olesko, who does a "Traditions" folk show on WFDU. He said he is looking forward to sharing our music with his audience. His program is on Sundays from 3-6 pm Eastern time at 89.1 or at www.wfdu.fm. I'm happy to hear that our music may get some airplay and look forward to hearing which songs he may choose. (Someone let me know, so I can try to include them in the setlist for our house concert in New City!)

Thanks for refreshing this, Sol, because I missed it the first time. Hey Don, maybe we'll get to Old Songs this year. And there's always NOMAD (Northeast Music and Dance Festival), which is coming up in New Haven on Nov 2-4.

The 5th person in the band is Paul Pozzi on mandolin, by the way. We're looking forward to doing some songs from our new GOING HOME cd as well as a few from the Civil War and others.

I am pleased to announce that the Borderline Folk Music Club of Rockland County will be doing Bluegrass for our next House Concert.
This will take place on Saturday night November 17th at 8 PM. The perfomers will be SHOREGRASS, a 5 piece band featuring Barbara Shaw on Guitar, Frank Shaw on Banjo, Bill Reveley on Fiddle, & Rick Brodsky on Bass. The concert will take place at the home of Steve Shapiro, 7 - Trailside Court, New City (Rockland County), NY. The suggested donation is $20 per person which includes refreshments. For reservations and more information you can PM me or e-mail me to
solz@att.net. You can also phone me at 845-354-4586.

Barbara Shaw is a member here on Mudcat and her band is very talented. I urge everyone to reserve early because Bluegrass shows sell out faster than those featuring folk performers. It should be a fun night for all.

Fay & I will also be celebrating our 37th wedding aniversary that night. We would like as many friends as possible to come and share in the festivities.
