Thank you to everybody who has sent PMs and E-mails I think we now have an itinerary and a few decent sings/plays to go to.
As my larger half is not a died in the wool folkie we can't do the Dunedin festival. It takes too big a slice out of our limited time over there to get down there and spend better part of a week on the site, beautiful as it is.
On the recommendation of a couple of ex pat Kiwis we will be popping in to Tui Farm for a day or three. It sounds like a really friendly festival with plenty of sings.
There are also some clubs and sessions running despite it being mid-summer so we will pick up a few as we travel round.

It's a myth. The holds aren't freezing at all, but I would not trust anything as precious as your YAM to the handlers at airports. I believe they deliberately single out instruments for the roughest handling they can meter out. Good luck with your search Mary, and to all in South Island (as opposd to West Island), Mary is a fabulous singer and player.

Does anyone know where I can buy a reasonably priced second hand guitar once I get there, preferably from someone who will buy it back at the end of the month?
Anyone who I can hire, borrow or beg one from.
I am reluctant to risk my beloved old Yamaha to the air line and a freezing hold.
I am landing and leaving from Christchurch, so a place on South Island please.

I've already contacted Martin and we hope to meet up at some point.
We have booked the flights, got the motorhome organised and son getting some time off so he can join us on a meander round.
Getting excited and hoping that my "annus horriblis" will be over before December.

Vectis-

You might also check out the Maritime Museum in Auckland. That's where Rudy Sunde and The Maritime Crew hang out (www.martimecrew.co.NZ) and there might be something of interest of their schedule.

Cheerily,
Charley Noble

Don't forget to look in on Martin Curtis in Wanaka.

I second the Kiwifolk website. Full of useful stuff.

Tui Farm Folk Festival
is probably the only one.
It looks like a friendly little place.

Yep.
Look here http://kiwifolk.org.nz/ for festivals etc.
I think there's a new year one near Nelson.
The best one is in Auckland at the end of January - too late!
I think there's a catter in Wellington but the rest of us are miles away.
Robyn

You could try sending Jacko a PM. Although he doesn't post much these days I know he still looks in.

My son has invited my husband & I to visit him in Blenheim for Christmas. To make such a long trip worthwhile we are coming for a month from December 12th to Jan 10th to explore South Island. It is really exciting.....

There is some stuff I would love to have some local/inside information about.

What is going on in the folk scene at this time?
Any festivals I can get a sing and play at?
Any clubs I can visit?
Any places I really should not miss out on visiting?
Any places I can meet up with some Catters?
Any help and information would be gratefully received.
Mary
