Ron, he did a great job with a short opening set at the BBC Write a Folk Song For Lincolnshire Contest at Spilsby, Lincolnshire, last week. But then, those of us who know him also know what a great guy and a great performer he is, don't we! :-)

We're looking forward to having him at the Gainsborough Folk Festival this weekend. How many other 'pro' musicians would offer to go play in a local cafe for free, as well as doing their 'paid' set in the theatre?

I have known Rik for years, and whatever happened I am sure it was done in innocence if he had any part in it.   Rik is one of the kindest and most giving people I have ever met on the folk scene. Anyone who thinks he is "selfish" just doesn't know Rik!

I urge everyone who are near the area to go see him.

By the way, if you happen to see the brilliant documentary "Pete Seeger: The Power of Song", the new film from director Jim Brown, you will catch a glimps of Rik and another good friend - Rick Nestler toward the end of the film. Rik and Rick are playing with Pete in a brief scene.

I hope Rik brought his bagpipe with him - and if he did, ask Rik about Utah Phillip's comment to him when he saw Rik warming up.

Sorry was me put sounds cool.
Forgot to put daddio to denote my own youth and my downness with the youth speak.
Mr Palieri was very pleasant to communicate with on MySpace and his music on there sounds pretty good.
Hows it hanging Young John?

"I would never consider attending any of his concerts or buying any of his material. He's a selfish shit."

Your loss Jack. There are a very great many who would tell you that's not the Rik Palieri they know. The one I've met is a kind, gentle, funny, talented musician, singer and raconteur.

The internet's a funny thing Jack, things aren't always what they seem - like when I mysteriously got billed on my credit card for 3 Grand's worth of air-tickets for flights to the UK from Eastern Europe. I didn't believe that either, and polite enquiries got me my money back.

I have since found a Usenet message in which Palieri apologized, blaming the Usenet abuse on his UK sidekick Tony Nightingale. Maybe. Given that the messages had been posted *under his own name* regularly for several *years*, it doesn't quite ring true.

Re the Texas trip Daithi, it's a combination of who you know out there and the internet. Myspace is also good for contacting venues/musicians. Now I'm no longer in full time employment helps, it gives me time to do some creative organising. Yeeha! Best regards and keep on whistlin'... Steve

Personally I've always found Rik, helpful and an all round nice guy not driven by the financial side. Always keen to help and involve musicians at his live performances. The guy you describe Jack, I simply don't recognise. I may have inadvertantly sent some big files myself in my time but if I knew then what I know now...
Cheers

I played my first gig a few years back as support to Rik. He was a gentleman, down to earth, encouraging, modest and helpful. If it is the same Rik, Jack, I am surprised. I am not suggesting that you are wrong, Jack, just that, the Rik I met a couple of times, did not appear that type of person. He gave my band a big build-up, seemed supportive, not patronising and anything but selfish.

I would never consider attending any of his concerts or buying any of his material. He's a selfish shit.

Hmmm. The one I know is anything but.

There must be two folk musicians by the same name. Imagine that.

Peter

For a few years Palieri was the most aggressive abuser of Usenet folk music groups, auto-posting immense files of publicity crap over and over again long after being repeatedly told to stop. That was back when bandwidth really mattered.

I would never consider attending any of his concerts or buying any of his material. He's a selfish shit.

I know Rik is playing various Lincolnshire dates in October but here's a couple I'm involved in.Bottoms on seats most welcome!

The first is a lunchtime appearance at a special edition of the "Write Note" at Lincoln Central Library on Friday 12th October (noon-2pm). The "Write Note" is a regular monthly acoustic lunchtime live music session held at the library, featuring a growing list of both musicians and audience. Rik will be the main guest at the session for which there will be a small cover charge. Rik will sing old favourites and original songs and no doubt tell stories from his book of a travelling life on the road " The Road Is My Mistress"

This is followed by a special concert at the Lincoln Drill Hall in the Armoury Cafe Bar (details below)

Lincoln Drill Hall Unplugged Special
Monday 15th October
Rik Palieri & Ploughmens Bunch
In The Armoury Café Bar

Time: 7.30pm (live music starts at 8pm)
Advance Tickets: £4 (£5 on the night-if available)

American troubadour Rik Palieri sings and performs both original and traditional songs on a variety of instruments, including banjo, 6 & 12 string guitars, mouth bow and Native American flute. He's appeared at festivals, clubs and radio shows in Australia, Poland, France, Spain, Germany, Scotland, Canada, virtually every state in the US and in 2002 even shared a stage with Bruce Springsteen. All Rik's shows feature a fun evening of stories, fast banjo picking, sing-a-longs, original song-writing and a little bit of yodelling! Support for the evening will be provided by Lincolnshire folk roots 'n' roll band "Ploughmens Bunch", who will almost certainly join Rik for a song or two. Later that week (19th October) "Ploughmens Bunch" are heading for a ten day trip to Texas where they'll be undertaking some barn dance, coffee shop and wine bar dates

Advance tickets for this gig are now on sale at £4 and available from the Lincoln Drill Hall box office on 01522-873894 and over the internet on www.lincolndrillhall.com. Rik's websites are at www.banjo.net and www.myspace.com/rikpalieri Ploughmens Bunch at www.pbunch.blogspot.com and www.myspace.com/ploughmensbunch
