Subject: Worlds of Trad October Upload From: Fred McCormick Date: 11 Oct 07 - 10:30 AM Hi Folks, Apologies to anyone who tried to log onto Worlds of Trad yesterday afternoon. I committed a fatal error while I was uploading the new programme - and managed to put the station off the air for several hours! Anyway, the October programme is now uploaded, and as always features the very best in traditional folk, ethnic, world, roots, blues, old time country and early jazz; in fact traditional music from absolutely everywhere. The full playlist is below but this month Freddie Fender, Clarence Ashley, Doc Watson, The State Street Boys, Big Bill Broonzy and Wallace "Cheese" Read give their respective takes on various hit parade songs. A number of African musicians will put in an appeance, including Jali Sherrifo Konte and several other members of the legendary Konte family from the Gambia; The Eureka Brass Band, Frankie Jaxon with Tampa Red's Hokum Jug Band, Joe Turner, Pete Johnson and Ida Cox will be giving the lowdown on how they like to keep it going all night long; there's a few more tracks to mark the fortieth anniversary of the death of Woody Guthrie; there's a couple of Scots songs from the berryfields of Blair and a rake of Scots tunes from all over; there's some wonderful stuff from Eastern Europe and Central Asia, while Packie McKeaney, Freda Palmer, Michael Gorman, George Dunn and Joe Hutton demonstrate that there's also a lot of good stuff closer to home. Oh, and Lightnin' Hopkins, Roosevelt Sykes, Big Joe Williams and The Growling Tiger will regale you with songs about sex and status, and what goes on in those big black shiny automobiles. To listen to the programme, go to http://www.live365.com/stations/oneworldmusic , then click on the yellow speaker button. If you need to, follow the onscreen instructions to download the station player. Then click the green play button, wait a moment or two and the station will be on the air. The next upload will be Wednesday November 14th 2007. Don't forget, listening is free and I'm always glad to receive requests. You can contact me on Fredlive365@aol.com .
