Hey, this is really good. A search for {fuzzy} whiskey brings up both "whiskey" and "whisky." I've used this database since 1992, and I suppose it has been able to do that the whole time, eh? You learn something new every day.

Max, thank you! It seems that DigiTrad has more capabilities than the ones I knew about. It seems that if you precede your search string with {fuzzy} in curly brackets, you'll come up with at least some of the vaiant spellings. A search for
{fuzzy} bonnie
will come up with songs containing either bonnie or bonie. It doesn't pick up songs containing bonny, , though.

Found this on the AskSam site. It explains more about searching the Digitrad and Fuzzy searches. http://www.asksam.com/cgi-bin/as_web.exe?wpubdoc+B+Search%20Syntax#Search Syntax

Thanks for starting this, bet. This is fun!

"Fuzzy Search," Kat, means using "fuzzy logic." Gee, I thought that you, of all people, would understand that....
-Joe, ducking for cover-
fuzzy logic [coined in 1965 by L.A. Zadeh, U.S. computer scientist] - a type of logic used in computers and other electronic devices for processing imprecise or variable data: in place of the traditional binary values, fuzzy logic employs a range of values for greater flexibility.
What does that have to do with searching the database? I dunno. I've been intrigued by the mention of "fuzzy search" on the no-hit search results page. My guess is that Max and Dick had planned for a fuzzy logic search, but it hasn't come to be yet. In the meantime, the best instructions we have for searching are here (click me).

fuzzy search can't mean the wildcards, as they are option number 2:
-Check the spelling of your search terms
-Use Wildcards at the end of words (e.g. user* instead of users)
-If you have Boolean operators in your query, try using OR instead of AND
-Try a fuzzy search

The Help page for Searching Digitrad does not mention "fuzzy"

I think what it means is along the lines of using: 'rollin*' or 'roll*' when doing a search for 'rolling' to allow for various spellings....

I'm trying to find a song in the DT, Sorry , no such match is what I get. Then it says to try the " fuzzy" search. WHAT IS THAT? I know I can probably type in a few of the words and someone will help me but I want to try this myself if I can. Thanks, bet
