Subject: RE: Finn & Haddie/South St. Seaport, Dec 2, 2007 NYC From: Liam's Brother Date: 07 Dec 07 - 06:27 PM I'm beginning to wonder whether Barry and Neil have made it home yet. Great concert and a lot of fun. Well appreciated by the crowd. Upcoming dates at South Street Seaport Museum, all featuring The New York Packet: 6 January - The Johnson Girls 3 February - John Roberts 3 March - Susan McKeown Group 4 April - David Jones |

Subject: RE: Finn & Haddie/South St. Seaport, Dec 2, 2007 NYC From: haddocker Date: 07 Dec 07 - 06:34 AM Hmmm...sounds interesting. Spring is always a little dicey with my studies and all,but I just might take you up on it. I should have recovered from my last New York trip by then. |
Subject: RE: Finn & Haddie/South St. Seaport, Dec 2, 2007 NYC From: Charley Noble Date: 06 Dec 07 - 08:57 PM Haddocker- The Seamen's Church is at South Street Sea Port on Water Street in NYC, probably close to where you and Barry were singing. There's a monthly Saturday sea music session there that I usually attend once or twice a year. Looks as if I won't be going down there until the spring, but if you're interested I would welcome company and there is plenty of space to stay over for a night with my family in Brooklyn, and then there are the Long Island folks that we could visit in Bellport on Sunday. Barry could tell you all about them. Nice folks! Cheerily, Charley Noble |
Subject: RE: Finn & Haddie/South St. Seaport, Dec 2, 2007 NYC From: haddocker Date: 06 Dec 07 - 02:36 PM Where's "Seamans Church"? |
Subject: RE: Finn & Haddie/South St. Seaport, Dec 2, 2007 NYC From: EBarnacle Date: 06 Dec 07 - 12:13 PM Burt Jenness was also the founder of team Saquish, a well respected rowing team on his home turf. Don't forget the chantey sing at Seamen's Church on the 8th. |
Subject: RE: Finn & Haddie/South St. Seaport, Dec 2, 2007 NYC From: Charley Noble Date: 05 Dec 07 - 10:43 PM Neil- We'll be delighted to see you again at the Press Room. We can compare our versions of the Bumboat Song. We do use the same chorus. And I think it's "Mid-Watches" that you're found of, unless it was "Sea Dreams"? They're both on my website as MP3 files; all you got to do is search for "Charlie Ipcar" whomever he be. Burt Franklin Jenness, by the way, turns out to have been a medical officier in the U.S. Navy in World War 1, rather than a sailor. I'm not surprised but a little disappointed. Cheerily, Charley Noble |
Subject: RE: Finn & Haddie/South St. Seaport, Dec 2, 2007 From: curmudgeon Date: 05 Dec 07 - 08:25 PM Hi David, et al. We have a monthly shanty/forebitter session at the Press Room n Portsmouth NH on the third Saturday of the month, every month, from 3:30 to 7:30 PM. The next one will be on 15 December. I'll be posting details here on Mudcat this weekend. If you chance to come by, youll see most of the lot that were at your house concert at Mary Sullivan's plus a lot more fine singers and all round good folk - Tom Hall |
Subject: RE: Finn & Haddie/South St. Seaport, Dec 2, 2007 NYC From: GUEST,Guest, David Jones Date: 05 Dec 07 - 07:23 PM Finn and Haddie were great. A bunch of songs I had never heard before. Have to get a hold of Venezuala to Trinidad, a terrific song, is it printed or recorded anywhere ? Barry, Neil and crew consumed about 40 pounds of well fried health food at our local tavern, so were in good shape for the journey home. Interested to learn more about the Pressroom. David |
Subject: RE: Finn & Haddie/South St. Seaport, Dec 2, 2007 NYC From: haddocker Date: 05 Dec 07 - 04:04 PM It sounds doable. My semester is over as of last evening, so I will be trying to make as many sessions as I can. I will write down the 15th. Perhaps my Finnland pal will grant me access to his couch again. The CD sounds like it is right up my alley. Charley, there was a song of yours that you wanted us to do. What is it again? I would like to work it up, as long as my matey is on board with that. Send me the lyrics and a midi and I vill take it to my laboratory to study it. |
Subject: RE: Finn & Haddie/South St. Seaport, Dec 2, 2007 NYC From: Barry Finn Date: 05 Dec 07 - 02:10 PM Sorry about the spelling Neil but I rvert to "i" before "e" except after "c" sometimes when I'm to foggy to think. Charlie, it wasn't 21 hrs in the wind & driving snow, it was 'awake' no mean feat for us spry youngsters. We sang: Roller Bowler BWI rowing song medley Yangste River Shanty Heavy Cruiser Venezuela To Trinidad "Jenness's" Bumboat Goodbye My Riley-O "Guy Clark's" South Coast of Texas Guantanamo Bay How it was recieved? You'd have to ask those that were ther, hopefully well. Gardi & Alexander manned the camcorers when they & Barry O'Brian are finished doing what they do you can judge for yourself when I get them up & posted either to U-Tube or onto my website. As for Neil getting to the Press Room, I'm surprized & happy to see him here but here's not a 3 hr drive away (one way). Barry |
Subject: RE: Finn & Haddie/South St. Seaport, Dec 2, 2007 NYC From: Charley Noble Date: 05 Dec 07 - 08:51 AM Neil- Welcome aboard! 21 hours, in the wind and the driving snow! I could make a song of that. Gee, I almost wish I were that young so I could run such a marathon. So what songs did you do in South Street, and how were they received? I don't suppose you'd consider attending the next Press Room gathering, Saturday, December 15; I have a new CD for you, and one for Barry as well, titled OLD SAILOR-POETS. Cheerily, Charley Noble |
Subject: RE: Finn & Haddie/South St. Seaport, Dec 2, 2007 NYC From: haddocker Date: 04 Dec 07 - 11:49 PM Baruch, You misspelled my name. How long have we been singing together? NEIL...but of course I know that you are tired. Hey Buddy..you know how many hour s we were up on Sunday? 21. |
Subject: RE: Finn & Haddie/South St. Seaport, Dec 2, 2007 NYC From: Charley Noble Date: 03 Dec 07 - 11:14 AM Barry- Thanks so much for the update! And it's great to hear that you're safely home. Driving back must have been a nightmare. We'll look forward to more details. Cheerily, Charley Noble |
Subject: RE: Finn & Haddie/South St. Seaport, Dec 2, 2007 NYC From: Barry Finn Date: 03 Dec 07 - 10:27 AM We did in fact aarrive safe & early & were warmly welcomed (even though we did bring the wild weather with us) by the New York Packet who put on a great 1 set. Niel & I had a blast, what a enjoyable & entertaining crowd, that loves to sing, they were the treat. It was so nice to perform for this New York crowd who stood so close beside me when I was so sick, it was an honor to perform for them. Afterwards a bunch of us retired to a local waterhole to eat, sing & chat. We did drive back last night, what a nightmare with the iced up roads, slow going but we're safe home at last. Barry |
Subject: RE: Finn & Haddie/South St. Seaport, Dec 2, 2007 NYC From: GUEST Date: 03 Dec 07 - 08:15 AM Evidently no survivors. Grumble, grumble. Charley Noble |
Subject: RE: Finn & Haddie/South St. Seaport, Dec 2, 2007 NYC From: Charley Noble Date: 02 Dec 07 - 08:49 PM I know that New Yorkers have a reputation for not being concerned about the outside universe unless they are trying to publicize one of their activities but some of us would really like to know that Barry and Neil arrived at South Street, were warmly welcomed, sang well, and were successfully discouraged from driving back home in a blizzard. Cheerily, Charley Noble |
Subject: RE: Finn & Haddie/South St. Seaport, Dec 2, 2007 NYC From: Charley Noble Date: 01 Dec 07 - 08:27 PM Ugh! The weather is looking evil. Hope our boys get off to an early start. Once they're there, they may not get back until spring. Cheerily, Charley Noble |
Subject: RE: Finn & Haddie/South St. Seaport, Dec 2, 2007 NYC From: Charley Noble Date: 30 Nov 07 - 05:12 PM Barry- I do hope you and Neil are planning to stay over for the night, rather than try to drive back after you sing. Not only would that be rude to the gentle NYC folks who will want to provide you additional hospitality, but it's really dangerous to push yourselves so hard at your advanced age. Cheerily, Charley Noble, senior citizen |
Subject: RE: Finn & Haddie/South St. Seaport, Dec 2, 2007 NYC From: Barry Finn Date: 30 Nov 07 - 02:43 PM We'll be there but we may not leave! PARTY!! Barry |
Subject: RE: Finn & Haddie/South St. Seaport, Dec 2, 2007 NYC From: GUEST Date: 30 Nov 07 - 09:54 AM I'm sitting on a high floor overlooking Central Park in NYC looking at a late November fly trying to get out of a closed window. It's 39F outside. Barry, I look forward to your concert. Hope you and Neil make it out of town alive. |
Subject: RE: Finn & Haddie/South St. Seaport, Dec 2, 2007 NYC From: TRUBRIT Date: 29 Nov 07 - 05:31 PM Good luck.....! |
Subject: RE: Finn & Haddie/South St. Seaport, Dec 2, 2007 NYC From: Charley Noble Date: 29 Nov 07 - 04:37 PM Barry- We should have no trouble hearing you and Neil singing at South Street from anywhere in the States, and, maybe, overseas. Of course, it might be better to purchase your new CD FULL FATHOM. Shillingly, Charley Noble |
Subject: RE: Finn & Haddie/South St. Seaport, Dec 2, 2007 NYC From: Barry Finn Date: 29 Nov 07 - 04:04 PM refresh, cause it's this weekend |
Subject: RE: Finn & Haddie/South St. Seaport, Dec 2, 2007 NYC From: Barry Finn Date: 16 Nov 07 - 02:17 PM Thanks Joe for date fixing. For those that can't attend, I'm gonna attempt a U-Tube showing of some of this, if I can buy a camcorder in time (the easy part) & then try to attempt to navigate the complexiies of cyberspace (the hard part) & get what I can out ther. But I'll 1st have to figure out how to operate the dam photo equiptment (the hardest part). Hopefully we can give all hat can't make it a good showing. I'll try to get all the lesdysic stuff worked out before hand. Barry |
Subject: RE: Finn & Haddie/South St. Seaport, Dec 2, 2007 NYC From: TRUBRIT Date: 16 Nov 07 - 01:54 AM How am I supposed to know that South Sea, Seapport is i NY??????????? It could be anywhere....... have fun y'all - and have fun on Saturday at the Press Room .... if I were not a starving realtor who has hardly had a closing for months. I would be down there with you all --- but such is not to be...I have to show houses,,,,,! |
Subject: RE: Finn & Haddie/South St. Seaport, Dec 2, 2007 NYC From: adventure Date: 14 Nov 07 - 05:57 PM WOW Anglo.....touche' and a point for you. Finn is now bleeding from a quick flick of the computer stroke. Very nice.....Finn did pretty good last evening while reading and singing a chantey from an e Bay purchase. He just was concerned about some tall person trying to see over his shoulder(wasn't hard to do). Did a nice job even with the added pressure. Nice to see Barry in good form...what a treat. This should be a fun gig for all to see. They did really well in Portsmouth this year. Good Lord, he even found his way out the door last night at Cameron's. There is...................................only one!!!! Would love to make the trip, but other things are already in place. See you in Portsmouth on Saturday afternoon....and bring a tourniquet!!! Doryman and his mate |

Subject: RE: Finn & Haddie/South St. Seaport 2/12/07 NYC From: Charley Noble Date: 13 Nov 07 - 04:30 AM This gig is such a challenge. Here we are in Australia and we haven't a clue what day it is or even what year. But we certainly encourage 8 million or so New Yorkers to attend this gig! It's an experience not to be missed. It is on 12/2/07 but I was just reading a British music calendar & I guess I couldn't make the change that quicly. Hopefully Joe or a clone will fix me up. Anglo & Art, two of a kind that beats a full house! I should be doing a comedy routine with you guys around here. Thanks Deb & Jacqui for your kind thoughts Barry |

Subject: RE: Finn & Haddie/South St. Seaport 2/12/07 NYC From: Art Thieme Date: 12 Nov 07 - 03:01 AM Well, now I see. I think I had heard that before Barry was born, his mom (translation: mum) had been stopped by a dyslexic state policemen who was checking for I.U.D.s ;-) Art |
Subject: RE: Finn & Haddie/South St. Seaport 2/12/07 NYC From: Anglo Date: 12 Nov 07 - 02:22 AM Oh come on Deborah! "Title is very misleading" !!! Finn and Haddie - those are the artists (I admit I use that term loosely). South St. Seaport - that's the location. 2/12/07 - That's the date - OK, I admit that for some reason unknown to me Barry is using English notation for the date, despite the fact that he's an American and the concert is in America. Perhaps he's aiming thiis whole thread at you, hoping you'll come down to the city - and maybe even give him a ride down. :-0 NYC - Yes, New York City, that's where South St. Seaport is. But I still don't understand your confusion over the title (unless it's the date) -------- but then we all know Barry's dyslexic................................... (well, we do now!). |
Subject: RE: Finn & Haddie/South St. Seaport 2/12/07 NYC From: TRUBRIT Date: 11 Nov 07 - 09:46 PM Title is very misleading -- as a true Finn and Haddie fan I will try to be there..... |
Subject: RE: Finn & Haddie/South St. Seaport 2/12/07 NYC From: Art Thieme Date: 11 Nov 07 - 09:41 PM Wish I could be there. --- And I'm glad it'll be inside!!!!! At first I was picturing the outdoor stage where I did a concert for the N.Y. Pinewoods Club a couple of decades ago. Barry, your thread title is a bit misleading. I thought this was an old thread about a concert from February 12, 2007. All the best, Art Thieme |
