Subject: Folklore: Playground rhymes on BBC Radio 4 From: Emma B Date: 04 Dec 07 - 12:11 PM "Word of Mouth" today at 4p.m. - available on listen again Presenter Michael Rosen goes back to the Old School Yard. "He's finding out what's become of playground rhymes, those verses that accompany young children's clapping, skipping and counting games. How are they bearing up in the face of online alternative amusements? He finds rumours of their death to be greatly exaggerated. In fact, at Columbia School in East London Michael finds them to be in right rude health, and constantly evolving, some even traceable to their roots in West Africa." |
