I should have mentioned, the Straw Bear will be strutting his stuff on the weekend of 11th-13th Jan 2008.

I hope to be there again next year Sue, I'll get my warm thermal underwear now!

There are a couple of old photos here before 1909 when an over-zealous police inspector had forbidden 'Straw Bears' as a form of cadging. Some more up to date photos on the web page too.

BBC Radio 4's Making History programme (3.15-3.30pm today) had a short article about the origins of the Whittlesea Straw Bear at the end of the programme.
