Subject: RE: Frank Sinatra - Folk Singer From: GUEST,Nerd Date: 03 Feb 08 - 05:38 PM Well, many below-average people can do "My Way" a cappella, which is why Dave Barry calls it "the national anthem of drunken untalented businessmen in Karaoke bars." |

Subject: RE: Frank Sinatra - Folk Singer From: Stringsinger Date: 03 Feb 08 - 03:08 PM I guess you gotta' be joking. Tony Bennett (who I like better than Sinatra) called his songs folk songs. But this is pre-empting a world of material that is more accessible, culturally representative and survives through many years. Sinatra is a great artist but to call him a folksinger means that the average person can do a Sinatra song on guitar or even accapella. Doesn't make sense. Let's see any folksinger on Mudcat rip off a rendition of most any Cole Porter song with any conviction or aplomb. Frank |

Subject: RE: Folklore: Frank Sinatra - Folk Singer From: KeithofChester Date: 03 Feb 08 - 12:37 PM Frank must be a folksinger, because Robbie Williams duets with him and looks like Seth Lakeman without the tattoos. Seth IS a folksinger so Frank must be. It Was A Very Good Year |

Subject: RE: Folklore: Frank Sinatra - Folk Singer From: Cuddles Date: 03 Feb 08 - 12:29 PM My friend played that at her mother's funeral you know. She had given her daughter the most unhappy life, through her selfishness. It was the most fitting song I've ever heard played at a funeral. |

Subject: Folklore: Frank Sinatra - Folk Singer From: GUEST,Shimrod Date: 03 Feb 08 - 12:18 PM I like Frank Sinatra and I like Folk Music - therefore Frank Sinatra must have been a Folk Singer - stands to reason, dunnit? And 'My Way' is a great working class anthem so that makes Frank a Folk Singer as well - it's so obvious when I come to think of it. This method of identifying Folk Singers is a synch - much easier than actually thinking or anything tricky like that! |
