Subject: RE: Tune Req: farewell to carlington -sea song From: Mick Pearce (MCP) Date: 06 Feb 08 - 07:15 PM The words are in the DT here and there are several forum threads - chords are available and a tune was sent to MMario according to one of the thread, but the tune doesn't seem to be in Mudcat Midis. You can find Tommy Makem's own words on his site: Farewell To Carlingford - Tommy Makem The Dubliners' words are in Henry's Songbook (of Susan and...): Farewell To Carlingford - Dubliners There is a video of Luke Kelly singing it on YouTube - Farewell To Carlingford - Luke Kelly. There's probably a lot more, but I hope that's enough to be going on with. Mick |

Subject: RE: Tune Req: farewell to carlington -sea song From: Seamus Kennedy Date: 06 Feb 08 - 04:55 PM Skarpi - it's a Tommy Makem song, and it's on a couple of his CDs, including a Makem and Clancy CD. I can't find it at the moment, but I think it's Makem & Clancy Live in Dublin. I believe you're right about the Dubliners doing it too. Seamus |

Subject: Lyr Add: FAREWELL TO CARLINGFORD (Tommy Makem) From: skarpi Date: 06 Feb 08 - 04:41 PM hallo all , does anyone know where I can get this song ?? I think ? the dubliners has done it on a cd I am nor sure . FAREWELL TO CARLINGFORD Tommy Makem 1. When I was young and in my prime and could wander wild and free, There was always a longing in my mind to follow the call of the sea. CHORUS: So I'll sing farewell to Carlingford and farewell to Greenore, And I'll think of you both day and night until I return once more, Until I return once more. 2. On all of the stormy seven seas I have sailed before the mast, And on every voyage I ever made, I swore it would be my last. 3. And I had a girl called Mary Doyle and she lived in Greenore, And the foremost thought that was in her mind was to keep me safe on shore. 4. Now, the landsman's life is all his own; he can go or he can stay, But when the sea gets in your blood, when she calls, you must obey. all the best Skarpi Iceland |
