Subject: RE: Lincolnshire Folk Sunday 2/3/08 Alford From: Backwoodsman Date: 04 Mar 08 - 08:13 AM Except, of course, that it doesn't work, because the more the volume is increased on the PA, the more the volume is increased on the conversation to overcome those annoying f***ers who insist on singing their boring songs! :-) :-) Unless of course they sing 'Nights in White Satin', then the talkers shut up and listen. :-) |

Subject: RE: Lincolnshire Folk Sunday 2/3/08 Alford From: Backwoodsman Date: 03 Mar 08 - 02:59 AM Correct Sooz but, in this day and age, 'acoustic music clubs' generally define acoustic more like "of, pertaining to, or being a musical instrument whose sound is not PRIMARILY electrically enhanced or modified, but is capable of being, and in fact is, electronically enhanced or modified as desired by the person(s) running and attending acoustic music clubs in an effort to overcome the noise of inconsiderates who talk through performances." |

Subject: RE: Lincolnshire Folk Sunday 2/3/08 Alford From: Backwoodsman Date: 02 Mar 08 - 10:53 PM "but a shame that nobody from the South of the county could be bothered to get their arses of the sofa and come to support us - we never let them down when the Folk-Meet's 'dahn sarf'." Having just re-read my post (insomnia rules OK - should be 'riles'!) maybe I was a bit hard on the south-county contingent, I'd not taken into account the 'Mothering Sunday' factor. Apologies if I offended anyone! :-) And, although the talkers at the back were an annoyance to us Old Folkie Farts, I think we have to understand that Alford isn't a Folk Club per se, it's an 'Acoustic Music' club with a PA, where anything musical goes, noise can be overcome by turning the PA up, and having a 'social' is part of their ethos. I guess we shouldn't be too hard on them for not understanding 'The Rules' as would normally apply at a Folk Club. It was a nice place to play, and I'm certain they enjoyed us! And Fiona was a revelation on descant recorder. Woooooo-Hoo! |

Subject: RE: Lincolnshire Folk Sunday 2/3/08 Alford From: Ruth Archer Date: 02 Mar 08 - 04:37 PM very honoured to be asked to sing, and I enjoyed it very much. The noise really was unfortunate, especially as the group in question appeared to be with the lovely lady who sang and played the recorder! But I enjoyed Tom's earthquake song, too, and everyone else's songs. Pity it desn't happen more often! |

Subject: RE: Lincolnshire Folk Sunday 2/3/08 Alford From: Sooz Date: 02 Mar 08 - 04:09 PM What about Tom Lanes earthquake song? I'm still chortling! Thanks to everyone who came along - particularly the well behaved audience. |

Subject: RE: Lincolnshire Folk Sunday 2/3/08 Alford From: Backwoodsman Date: 02 Mar 08 - 03:47 PM Still, a good afternoon's music.Very high standard from the performers, but a shame that nobody from the South of the county could be bothered to get their arses of the sofa and come to support us - we never let them down when the Folk-Meet's 'dahn sarf'. However, their loss - A Star Was Born, in the person of Mudcat's very own Ruth Archer! What a voice, and what a lovely lady. More please! |

Subject: Lincolnshire Folk Sunday 2/3/08 Alford From: Rasener Date: 02 Mar 08 - 03:29 PM Just to say what a very good afternoon it was. Mr & Mrs Sooz, Backwoodsman, Ruth Archer were there from the mudcatters side. Dave & Julie Evardson, Knocker and his missus, Nick and the lady who sang and played the recorder very nicely (sorry forgot her name), Ricardo (who plays the guitar upside down), Brian Dawson. They provided a very nice selection of music all afternoon. Many thanks to you all. My only disappointment was the amount of talking that went on whilst the singing was on, by I suppose non folkies or people who just thought it was background music. Shame really. Les Worrall |
