Tradfan,

The session at the Chevy Chase is slated for 4pm but rarely starts on time. If you don't want to come that far east then I believe there is still a session at the Porterhouse, Maiden Lane, Covent Garden at about the same time.

It's opposite Wood Street station which is on the National Rail line out of Liverpool Street.

But if you are at Stratford the best way is to get the Central Line to Leytonstone and the W16 bus from outside the station goes to Wood Street Station.

Or I see from LtS post above that you are near Maryland, then maybe best to get the 69 bus from there to the Bakers Arms and catch the W16 from there PM me if you need more detail.

More detail here

Wood Street station is one stop from Walthamstow Central on the Vistoria Line but it's always worth checking trains/tubes on Sundays in case of engineering work etc

It's an open session, PM Manitas for details. He leaves the house abot 2.30 so I'd say 3, in the Chevy Chase pub, near the Maryland Station, Stratford. It's only about 10 mins walk from the Central Line station at Stratford and on several bus routes.

Thanks again for all your posts.

Liz: what time does the session start on Sunday afternoons? Is it an open session? Is it easy enough to find if we do go along? Sorry about all the questions!

Also Kevin, whereabouts in Walthamstow is the pub for Sunday evenings?

Thanks again.

And is you get to Liz's sessions on Sunday afternoons you're not far from Walthamstow for the evening.

By one of those quirks of fate April is quite "American" at Walthamstow.

All fine music, and anyone is welcome to play along with the house band (which can vary from one person to many, depending on circumstances!) at the start and during the interval.

You could get the train down to Rochester. Sessions at The Good Intent, ( 400 yards from the station ), every 1st and 3rd Tuesday, 8.30 onwards. Real ale and free food

If you can make it over to east London (near the Central Line tube), here's a session on Sunday afternoons in the Chevy Chase, Stratford.

Mick, thoughful of you to post the info but I seem to remember that Friday to Monday doesn't include Tuesdays or Wednesdays.

It depends what you want. For an instrumental session of traditional music you can't beat the Greenwich crowd that meet in The Lord Hood pub, Creek Road, Greenwich every tuesday night. For a sing-around then Folkmob at The Tudor barn in Eltham on Wednesdays is a good bet.

The George Inn just South of London Bridge, one of the oldest pubs in London has a session every 1st Monday in the Month unless it is a Bank Holiday and then it is the following week.Mainly English,French and Breton Music.

Thanks for your help

Kevin, the actual dates are still open to interpretation. Actual weekend should be finalised this week.

I will keep checking back on the Folk London Listings. It seems like a pretty extensive list so should hopefully find something to go to.

Thanks again.

Tradfan have you the actual dates in April or is it still open.

It would help with advice as some gigs/sessions are weekly some monthly etc

Folk London Listings

April doesn't appear to have made it yet but I expect the page will update very soon.

As a guide, Friday may have Musical Traditions though this happens approximately once a month.
Saturday has The Cellar Upstairs and Sunday has Walthamstow.

Venue addresses and contact numbers are listed and, especially in the case of sessions, it's as well to check beforehand.
On Sundays there are several sessions at various pubs according to the time of the month.

The Magpie's Nest mentioned above is only monthly and on Wednesdays.

Hi

Relatively new to this forum so unsure how this all works, but here goes.

I am planning a trip to London in April. I just wondered if anyone knew of any good sessions/gigs I could check out while there. Always good to check out something new (I'm in Ireland so at sessions every week here).

I'm staying in the Hyde Park area. Can anyone suggest anywhere to go?
