Nice piece in the Guardian yesterday about the Proms and what was even better was they seemed to be interested in the Folk Day and gave quite a few lines to it. This suggests there may well be good coverage nearer to the time which has got to be good news for us folkies!

Charlotte - laugh not. IIRC the Bacup Britannia Coconut dancers have performed in the Albert Hall...

Kitty I followed up on this, last night...found some videos on Youtube and looked at their website...now this looks like fun.. :-D

We had a ceilidh in the prom queue on the Albert Hall steps once!

I'd arrived with some friends and our instruments and we were going to play a few tunes just for fun while were in the afternoon queue. Somebody came up and offered to call some dances if we'd play for them - so we had a spontaneous ceilidh there and then.

Thanks to the annual EFDSS festival which used to take place there, The Albert Hall has played host to most of the best-known traditional dance sides in the country at one time or another, hasn't it, Kitty?

Theres a family choir and a family orchestra earlier in the day. Anyone know who's leading them.
Well done Beeb.

And the Proms are not strangers to ceilidhs.. years ago, Manitas played for the 'after the Last Night concert party', which although not strictly a Proms concert, certainly involved the organisers.

With maypole and morris dancing too, I heard (in the gardens, not the RAH) - anyone know which side(s)?

It looks like it is being broadcast live on BBC4 and Radio 3 according to the piece on the website.

Hi everyone

Here is some advance info if you are planning your summer diary. The BBC proms features a Folk Day this year and includes the first ever ceilidh with music by Pete Quinn and the London Lasses and ME doing the calling. All held in the wonderful Royal Albert Hall in London. To get a free dance ticket you have to attend the evening concert featuring Bellowhead, Martin Simpson
http://www.bbc.co.uk/proms/2008/whatson/2007.shtml

...and if you need some practice you could always attend the festival ceilidh at the Brighton Festival 25th May with me and the wonderful Flying Chaucers

Cheers

Sarah
