Subject: RE: Charlie Poole Festival From: BanjoRay Date: 14 Apr 08 - 03:52 PM I went in 2006 - it's an excellent weekend, with competitions in all instruments including one for Charlie Poole style banjo playing, which Mudcatter Pete Peterson does very well - he was there when I was. I got to visit the graves of the musicians in the North Carolina Ramblers (Charlie, Posey, etc) and played in some great sessions. Ray |

Subject: RE: Charlie Poole Festival From: Desert Dancer Date: 14 Apr 08 - 01:35 PM It's definitely on my list, for when I can get to the region... Our local folklorist, "Big" Jim Griffith, was a festival winner, once. ~ Becky in Tucson |

Subject: Charlie Poole Festival From: Janie Date: 13 Apr 08 - 10:42 PM I noticed the resurrection of the What is old timey music thread, which mentioned the resurrection of the Freighthoppers, and their My Space page linked to The 13th annual Charlie Poole Festival, which I forgotten to mark on my calendar, so now I get to go instead of forget about. I haven't been before, but hear it is a nice old time music event. Thought it others in the region might also be interested. Eden,NC is a small town on the North Carolina/Virginia border, not far from Martinsville, Va. It is just a bit further east of Mt. Airy Janie |
