Subject: Hymns for jazz band - the sequel From: Cappuccino Date: 29 Apr 08 - 06:30 AM Many of you kindly responded to my requests for suggestions about hymns for our wedding, which could be played by the trad jazz band which had been allowed to play in the church. Well, the wedding was on Saturday, we were blessed with a day of perfect sunshine in the middle of an otherwise dismal period (it's pouring down in Cornwall today) and the band came back to our house and played in the garden for the reception. From the suggestions, we chose What a Friend We Have in Jesus, which can swing nicely, and Dear Lord and Father of Mankind... it turns out that this can also be gently swung, to very good effect. And several people suggested Down By The Riverside, which was the third hymn. Even the minister could be seen tapping his fingers on the pulpit! We came back down the aisle to (of course) the Saints, and herself and I ended up dancing inside the entrance to the church, instead of making the traditional exit! Many thanks to everyone for suggestions. - Cappuccino in Cornwall. |
