-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Headlining the concert will be Steve Tilston, born in Liverpool and raised in the Midlands: Steve has been quietly ploughing his own artistic furrow, turning out quality albums since the early 70s. In the past he has toured as guitarist with Ballet Rambert, as a member of Ship of Fools, John Renbourn and more recently with WAZ! He is a celebrated artist both in Britain and abroad, winning accolades in Europe, Australia and the USA.

The concert opens with Ruth Royall, a very talented, young (only 17) Bristol singer/songwriter. Following Ruth is Alphonse Daudet Touna (from Cameroon) who plays balaphon, hand-drum and guitar.

Second half opens with local duo, Jim Reynolds (guitar) and Dave Griffiths (mandolin & double bass). Steve Tilston will finish out the evening, probably joined by Dave Griffiths for a couple of songs, as they are old friends.

The artists are all performing without fee. This is something of a new venture for 'Books for Amnesty' Bristol, as this is the first concert we are promoting at this level. If it is successful, we hope to do more in the future.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A brief summary of how all this came together is as follows: 'Books for Amnesty' volunteer, Colin Richardson, managed Steve Tilston for a short while back in 1971/72, but lost touch when he joined Charisma Records. In the year 2000 he moved back to Bristol and often visited the, now defunct, jazz and folk venue the 'Albert Hole' in Bedminster. When he saw that Steve was billed to appear, he made contact with the promoter, who agreed that he could be admitted before the audience arrived and surprise him. Having re-established contact, he asked Steve if he would agree to headline a fundraising concert for Amnesty. To Colin's delight, he agreed and this concert is the outcome. The concert will raise about £1500, if it sells out. Any help you can give us in making this venture a success will be greatly appreciated.
